Ford tops GM on undercarriage rust & fit and finish

For those of you who complained about the rust issues on the later model GMT900's and the new K series trucks, it looks like Ford has upped the anti with rust.

 

Trolling on the F150 forum this morning I ran across these pics of one of the 2015 F-150's. Some surface rust on the front axle and..... Someone forgot to paint the rear axle and diff. Nice way to accent your $60K truck huh?

 

 

 

 

 

On a somewhat related note early adopters are finding fit/finish issues on the new aluminum bodies. Same truck as above, look at gap between the rear door from top to bottom.

 

 

 

In all seriousness. It doesn't matter who the manufacturer is, issues like these do nothing to inspire confidence in spending what they are asking for these machines.

First mistake they made was leading people to believe that light rust on the frame and rear end housing was bad. The second was that they could keep any coating on it long term. Now you have people complaining on here about rust on their exhaust manifolds. When I was younger and bought new trucks I would spray spots I could see standing up for looks, wheel well housings, the rear end etc. Being most of my work was off road it would get dirt and mud covered anyway. Never had a problem with rust through.

My FIL had his Toyota Tacoma recalled for frame rust. Luckily his wasnt rusted through and didnt need a new frame.

 

He really complains about GM products but my 2010 has yet to have a recall (knock on wood) and his Tacoma (09 I believe) has had 3 or 4.

I've seen some F350's on lots before, where the frame coating is just not there in spots. All orange.

Lol yea, Saw that thread too. I lurk over on the F150 forums because I used to have one. Been following some of the threads over there just for snicks and grins.

They all have issues. It just depends on how the manufaturer handles them.

 

And atleast it isn't rust on the frame just some components. Frame rust is what drives me crazy

 

My FIL new Tundra's rear diff looked like that when he bought it and they fixed it no problem.

Well don't tell the boys over in the 2014+ issues forum, they are very hopeful that GM will cave in and fix the vibration issues out of threats of switching over to Fords. You show them that the F150s are crap too, they are going to really go off the deep end.

But according to some members Ford is supposed to be superior. This can't be happening.

 

Really though, I haven't looked under mine lately. I noticed the exhaust manifold already rusty when I got the truck with 9 miles and it didn't bother me. I guess I'm just used to that. Maybe one day I can put headers on it so no big deal.

Those photos posted by the op would be a "I am never buying another GM product again & my family has been buying them for 400 years" rants if it were a GM product down in the issues section here.

Things like exhaust manifolds with always rust instantly pretty much, it's raw cast iron. Heck they even flash rust a little before they are even installed on the engine at the factory.

Yeah plus it would be front page headlines and would be reported ad nauseum on every cable news channel. I have to find it ironic though that the aluminum truck that doesn't rust (yeah I know that's only the body) has rust issues.

Went by a Ford dealer this afternoon. They had 2 of the new 2015's in stock & both had the issues the guy who owns the white one above. The rear ends just had surface rust on the sides of them, but the door fitment was the same as pictured.
