Lock'er Console Safe Questions

I am strongly considering installing a Lock'er Down console safe in my 2014 Sierra, and was looking for input and feedback from anyone who owns one or something similar. I see that two different models, the 2040 and 2042, can be installed in our consoles. It appears the 2040 fills the entire space in the Sierra console, including the space between the 12V port and the multimedia port, while the 2042 leave that space open so you can retain the stock plastic tray for pens and the small items. (see pics below) I'm leaning towards the 2042 so I can keep my pen tray, as it seems the safe would still be plenty large inside. Has anyone tried either of these?

My second question is which lock style would be the best choice? On this I'm leaning towards the 4-digit combination lock because of the cost and I wouldn't have to worry about losing the key.

Any and all opinions and feedback will be appreciated.

I bought the 2040 for my 15' Denali, I ordered it with the key, figured easier to use without having to put on my glasses to use. It dropped right in after a good yank out with the plastic tray and side hanging folder holders. Reinstalled side folder holders in slots, after I bolted in safe with longer supplied screws, looks great, works wonderfully. Now I don't have to worry about grabbing everything when I go through a full service car wash or when I stop after work and I have things that I don't need to carry with me while in a bar or restaurant. My gmc dealer has never seen one before and was impressed. Good place to keep my wheel lock lug for my GM chrome 22's.

I have the 2042 with the 4 digit combo in my truck and love it.

How about a picture?

Where did you see the LD2040 allows you to keep the change and pen tray? Thanks!

The LD2040 does not allow you to keep the change & pen tray, but the LD2042 does. I cannot find where I originally read about this, but it basically stated that the LD2042 can be substituted for the LD2040. I can tell you first hand that it works because I bought the LD2042, and I am extremely happy with it.

I also bought the 2042 with the combination lock. It's great. I had the safe type of console vault on my old Chevy Avalanche. It's definitely a must have item.

I'm considering one of these or the Console Vault. http://www.consolevault.com/GMC-Sierra-1500-Floor-Console-2014_p_98.html#.VoRn7lK5KHA

I was thinking I would get the key lock as it seems quicker but if the combo locks are just as quick and have equal security I might go that route.

Which of the lock types is more secure?

I'm not sure about which one is more secure but I went with the combo version and love it. I have too many keys as it is to keep up with.
