The Z71 wheels/rims are also different. Those look like non Z71 wheels.

Now that you mention it thats not the Z71 wheels. The Chevy Z71 has there own wheels unless you jump up to the 20" chrome. At least thats the way way they were on the '14s when I was looking at them.

All,

I went and checked it out again today and looked for all the visual stuff. No Z71 gauges, no hill descent control button, no red shocks, no skid plate under t-case from what I could see. Whoever owned it before must have swapped the grille.

This is a major bummer because the truck had ALMOST everything I wanted. Double cab, standard bed, LT, Blue Topaz exterior, gray interior, center console with heated captain's chairs, 3.42 gears, 5.3L V8 and I don't think it had the "LT Convenience" package and no Bose speakers (but I would take one without them if it had all the above)...but no Z71 package. Such a bummer. If any of you all know someone with one of these that wants to get rid of it with under 35K miles...let me know :) They are hard to find.

Thank you all for the input and help!

And you can add the skid plate under the transfer for like 40 bucks. And unless you plan to use the hill decent...why pay for it. The regular 4x4 rides smoother than the Z71 to.

Drive it first. There might be a reason it's traded in already.

THIS!

Honestly, unless you NEED the hill decent control then the truck not having the z71 package should not be that big of a deal. you can always throw some z71 stickers on there if you want.

I was just about to post this. A 2014 traded back in this early would have me running the opposite direction. Especially if the owner swapped the grille out for a Z71 grille......that tells me he's somewhat of an enthusiast and wasn't pleased with this truck for some reason. This early on in a model cycle I'd generally be afraid of any 2014 trade-in that didn't have a ridiculous amount of miles on it and the owner just wanted to get something with less miles. If I were in your shoes looking for a truck, I'd look for a used 2012 or 2013 or try to find a deal on a new 2014 since the 2015's are rolling out.

There is lots of reasons why people's plans and therefore vehicles get changed, but I agree with above, go in with your eyes open -- and understand what warranty is included.

Sometimes the best deal out there is the one someone else has taken the initial depreciation on.

All,

This truck, as it turns out was the 'shop truck' for the dealer it is at. It has 33K miles on it. So while it's newish. It certainly isn't new at this point. I am going to test drive it tomorrow. It has the NHT Max towing package so it has the 3.73 gears. I want to see how it affects has mileage vs 3.42s. If I like it I will have them install remote start as part of my deal. It also has brand new tires on it.

Interesting turn.

Max tow and Z71, cannot be ordered on the same truck.

If you've read, he found out it was just a regular 4x4 and they just installed a z71 grille

Sent while in 'Murica...

What do you guys suggest I look out for?

Check for vibration at all speeds. The 40-75 mph range seems to be the speed range to look at.

Check for major accident history (car fax, etc) and look for signs of repairs. Maybe have a independent mechanic check it out.

Read other issues over on the issues, troubleshooting, recalls section.

Get a good warranty with a contract, not verbal.

Yep all of this, especially the vibration issue and checking for any major engine or transmission repairs. I'm not 100% sure how you'd go about the latter unless the selling dealer has the work history on the truck.
