Why does just the Yukon get all the new tech?

I was at work today and went to go help a friend move his car closer to the building. He has a new 2015 Civic and I was playing around with "hondalink" and other "technology" showing him features and stuff (he is an older guy) Well we were driving and I noticed when he turned on his turn signal, the screen displayed the side of car (looked just like the rear camera) which I thought was awesome. Called Honda Lane Watch.

Anyways after the shock of a 20k civic having something so cool, my next thought was damn why does my 60k MSRP 2015 Sierra Denali I just ordered not even have blind spot warning let alone cameras in each mirrors? Then I got on these forums (like I have daily since I ordered my truck) and then I find out that the Yukons have most of the new safety tech standard/available while the Sierra doesn't even have the option. Including HIDS, rain sensing wipers, push start etc the list is long.... and one of my favorite features on my Cadillac CTS V "INTUITIVE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM" While it seems petty, but never taking the fob out of your pocket to unlock/lock is just awesomely convenient. I was actually disappointed when I read the Sierra didn't have this feature.

Am I missing something? I understand the Yukons cost more and are for the "family, but why such a difference. I have read some people say you need to order a Cadillac truck (which doesn't exist) to get these features but surely I'm not the only one buying a "Denali" truck this expensive for hauling around the family while doing some "work" also.....

Damn... wireless charging and heads up display, honestly can't believe the differences. Clearly the people that drive Sierras would like their phones charged without wires as well? Or want to get in their trucks without fumbling through your pockets to get the keys out? I think I would also like "Enhanced Security" and adaptive cruise if it actually works....

Will some of this stuff be available for 2016, might be worth waiting? Would really suck to get my truck in 6-12 weeks and they add some of this stuff this year.

Not trying to be a rant, just so confused just why

Lots of reasons

New technology - test on one platform then pass it on to others

Target users - they feel the end user doesn't want or need the feature

Cost cost cost, this goes back to the customer. What will they be willing to pay extra for

Another thing it's a never ending game there is always new technology. Works out well for the mfr if you bought a truck in 14 then 2 yrs later they add features you have to have so you go buy a new truck.

One feature I cannot figure out why they dont have yet in the trucks is a heads up display. Love it in my camaro and they have used it since 2010.

Can't have everything

Makes you look over your shoulder and pay attention.

A good thing imo.

new F150 has most of those features, except the camera.

In GMC's truck tv commercial, they brag they are first to offer LED cargo box lighting, big whoop!

We'll it is professional grade. Lol.

If you want features , the ford and ram leads this category.

A 72k Yukon Denali has to have some things your 60k Sierra Denali doesnt have or they couldnt justify the extra 12k they charge..... The prices are crazy in my opinion but the Yukon Denali with 22's looks awesome but i'd never pay 72k for it......

IMO there has got to be a line, there cramming all this stuff at us, eventually no one will be able to do anything on there own, I don't want all that on my pickup truck, but if I had a denali I would want every crazy feature there is

My CTS keyless system has been nothing but trouble.

Example; get out of the car, shut the door with it running and mail a letter coming back and not being able to get in is very frustrating.

Example; cooler temps, dash displays, keyfob not detected while is sits in front of you, car remains dead.

Example; Doors do not always automatically lock, hop in to move car, horn is yelping while the fob is in my wifes purse in the house.

I have a shoebox of batteries and extra remotes, I have yet to figure it out.

I love this feature on my caddy v, like I said above I want it on every vehicle and was especially disappointed my 60k Denali doesn't have it. There really is nothing to figure out, you leave the fob in your pocket

I understand some people are fine with single cab bench seat trucks, but skynet and the T-1000 are not coming to get us. As jamin87ss states, I'm suppose the be ordering the "Denali" Sierra.

I don't expect to have all the same features of a car that costs 10k+ more, but why not have the options available? I plan on keeping the truck for years and spending almost 60k on an already outdated truck doesn't seem right. Will some of this be added in late 15 or 2016? Or you have to wait for the next model refresh?

Maybe it is just me, but just seems so odd. Especially when you consider the history of the sierra/yukons ( at least to my knowledge) which has been they have been pretty equivalent.

the Cadillac CTS V

this was all I read....

But the Yukon is at least $20000 more. Hence I got a Sierra and added a cap.

there are no luxury trucks although the new f150 does have 360 camera, a full sunroof and some nice features that luxury cars come with. i bought the denali and wished i had saved money on a basic slt.

I really miss the rain sensing wipers my '09 ltz had. Rains a ton here in the summer in fla

The new Titan has a lot of those luxury features like push button start, blind spot warning, etc.

Honestly the only feature I would like to have is the blind spot warning. The Ford, tundra and soon the Titan and Tacoma will have it. Neither GM truck or the Ram have the option.

The thing that frustrates me is how slow the CPU is on my truck compared to my Mom's Verano. She is driving a 2014 Buick that costs half what my truck does and while she can barely work it, her computer functions twice as fast as my truck. Voice commands, Nav, parking sensors, you name it. In fact, by the time the parking sensors go off I would have hit whatever they are trying to warn me about if I didn't creep up on them. When my $600 phone can out perform the computer in my truck, and the phone's a year older, that's not a good sign...

Overall, my wife's 2012 Charger has some advanced features that my month old Denali doesn't that I don't understand why GM is slow to adopt standard.

-Power wheel tilt and telescope steering column

-Push button start

-Zero-effort door unlocking with the fob near by. Same for truck.

-Much more responsive uConnect-based system

-HID headlights

-No flaws in the paint

And it was 20K cheaper.

    • I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay

    • You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
