Front Air Dam Provides Air Flow to the Engine?

Might be a factor if the fans quit working, not sure if you have heard your secondary fan kick into high gear ever, but that thing moves some serious air. Wouldn't think it a small piece of plastic on the bottom of the bumper would have much, if any impact

I took mine off on my 09 the week I bought it with no issues. I even towed a 28' camper about 20 times over 2 years with no noticeable effect on the engine or tranny temps.

Last I checked, heat rises. I've had mine off for awhile and no problems. The only thing I noticed was the mpg on the interstate may have dropped at most 1 mpg, but maybe that's in my head so I don't know. I also removed the valance from the front of my 98 Z71 and no problems. I honestly don't see how the valance would effect the air flow in or out of the engine bay. In the middle of the valance is only maybe 2" I think it was. Plus on the 4x4s you have the front diff.

on first start up after disconnecting the battery the fans turn on to what I assume is 100% regardless of the ambient air temp and holy cow do those things move some air! it sounds like a mini jet engine is under the hood! I have yet to hear my fans turn on even in the middle of the summer sitting in stop and go traffic with the a/c full blast.

 

my gmt 900 you could hear the fans on high pretty much throughout Houston's summer.

 

idk if it's just me but I like the sound of the electric fans on high, not sure why...

As powerful as these new electric fans are, a little piece of plastic on the bottom of the bumper isn't going to make one if these trucks overheat.

the absence of the air dam could increase the pressure under the vehicle causeing a dead spot of air movement and a heat issue for some components.

Glad I read about this, never thought about the air dam.

 

My truck overheats fairly frequently with the plow on (regardless of angle or level), because the plow creates a vacuum in front of the radiator. I have the airdam on (sliced in the middle for the plow mount to poke through). I'll have to take the dam off and see if it makes any difference...it might reduce the vacuum and thus reduce the overheating.

I think you're not going to see any difference until you do something about the plow itself. Can you post a picture of your truck from side and slightly forward with the plow mounted?

I'm assuming you meanthe truck overheats when not plowing?

 

Ok, you're gonna think I'm nuts. Find a couple round trash cans that fit the curve of the blade and strap them in with tiedowns. Give it a try.

My '93 would get above 210 once, and a while, I had to lower the blade straight, and let air get above it into the grill

About the only time it could play a factor in cooling I would imagine is running highway speeds on a 100 degree day in the mountains towing a nearly full load that has a good amount of wind drag. Those that mentioned a low pressure area area correct. Most people (especially in the city or those that never tow) won't ever notice a thing but a small decrease in MPG. I can certainly see it playing a factor for a select few individuals though, they wouldn't have made that note in the manual if it didn't...

That plow should be angled all the way to the right and 1in. off the ground, I am guessing you are keeping it strait and all the way up.
