U.S. Marine Back Stateside Soon

Hello all.

My name is Jeff. I am 29 years old and I have been in the Marine Corps for 10 years. I am currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan and I will be back stateside this summer. I have done two tours in Iraq and my military occupational special is called Cyber Network Systems Chief - I design and implement computer networks including switches, routers, servers, desktops, laptops, satellite transmission devices, classified and unclassified. It's pretty interesting to me at least.

My first truck was a rusted out, free 1985 S10 Tahoe. Barely ran great until one day it threw a rod through the hood driving down the highway.

My second truck was a 1992 Ford Ranger four on the floor with the little 2.2. That was a lot of fun. Drove that until I wrecked it by a touch and go at a stop sign when I was 17. Stupid.

Then I moved on briefly to a 1979 Ford Thunderbird that was on the back 40 at my grandparent's place. That died a few months later.

I snagged a 1998 S10 my senior year of high school. Single cab with the 2.3 just to get around. Blew the transmission driving from Michigan to North Carolina to my first duty station in the Marines. That was interesting.

Towards the end of my first tour in Iraq in late 2006, I was able to get on Autotrader and find basically the truck of my dreams at the time. 2004 GMC Sierra SLT crew cab with all the bells and whistles with only 31,000 miles. I got it for $21,000, and was a near-$50,000 truck brand new. My mother stopped by with some money and told him it was for her son on his way home from Iraq, so he sold it to her at his auction price with $100 markup. I looooved that truck and drove it until I traded it in in 2012.

Somewhere along the way I picked up a 2002 Corvette Z06. Nuff said, it's everything you think it would be. Amazing. Awesome. Exhilarating. Fast. Sexy. Sleek. Powerful.

I traded both the Corvette and the Sierra in to purchase a 2012 2500HD. I didn't particularly want a 2500HD, but I desperately wanted a crew cab with a full size bed, not the horrible extra short baby bed. I put a lot of stuff in the back of my truck and the crew cab short bed as unusable to me. I ordered the 8-foot bed because why not. I got the 6.0 V8, and it was a wonderfully big heavy long fuel sucking beast.

I got orders shortly after to Okinawa, Japan and didn't want to store a four month old truck for three years, so I sold it. Took a loss, but not horrible.

Fast forward to now, and I will be home this summer. I am ordering a 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Crew Cab Standard Box All Terrain with 6.2 and 8-speed.

I am undecided on getting the 20-inch rims from GMC, or going aftermarket. I want some meaty BF Goodrich All Terrain tires, so I might just get the cheaper stock rims and tires and spring for aftermarket right away.

I am looking to get a Borla ATAK installed, but not sure how that will work out with the CC std bed. I want aggressive, not the GM Borla touring edition. I made a thread in the accessory section asking about the ATAK on a 6.2 CC std bed and getting it to fit.

First stop after leaving the dealership will be a Line-X Pro spray on. Debated the GM liner, but Line-X is more or less the best and for life.

Not sure what else to say. I love American Muscle and GMC trucks.

Thanks for stopping by San Diego.

Yeah I have been reading extensively on the 8-speed transmission issues. I am hoping since my order is a few months away that some bugs will be worked out.

Thank you for your service! You will love the 6.2l and the All Terrain package. My tranny shifted a little strange at first but after 1100 miles now it shifts pretty smooth. Have a safe trip home.

Welcome from Louisiana. I spent several months in Japan (Sasebo and Yokohama) at the end of Vietnam war. Thanks for your service.

Hey Jeff, I called Borla and asked about an exhaust for a crew cab standard bed for the 6.2L. None at this time, but if the demand grows, they'll start making them.
