Hello again everyone. I appreciate the responses and it dawned on me that i was not clear with my request.

I do not want to use a fob or phone to enter my truck. I want to use the key the dealer provided me without the alarm going off. I carry very little with me so to add a mobile phone or fob device to me is an unnecessary requirement to use my truck.

I appreciate all of your ideas.

Have your alarm disabled.

I appreciate all the responses but I am still hoping for a answer that will fit my need.

As my original post states my wife is the daily driver and she needs the full capabilities of the system.

When I use the truck I want to use only the key without setting off the alarm.

Any more ideas?

Arming the Content Theft Deterrent System
Use the following procedure in order to arm the system:

 1. Place the shift lever in P (park).
 2. Turn OFF the ignition.
 3. Open any door.
Note: The system is not armed if the doors are locked manually; the power door lock switch or remote keyless entry transmitter must be used to arm the content theft deterrent system.

 4. Lock the doors with the power door lock switch or by pressing the LOCK button on the transmitter. The system is in standby mode and will not start the arming timer until all doors are closed.
 5. The system will begin the arm sequence immediately after the last door is closed. If the keyless entry transmitter is used the arm the system after the vehicle doors are closed, the arm sequence will begin as soon as the LOCK command is received by the transmitter.
 6. Pressing the LOCK button on the keyless entry transmitter a second time will bypass the delayed arming function and force the system to arm.
Locking the Vehicle Without Arming the Content Theft Deterrent System
Locking the vehicle may be accomplished without arming the content theft deterrent system. Use of the manual door locks will lock the vehicle, but will not arm the content theft deterrent system.

Tom, thanks for your post yesterday. I really appreciate the documented steps that clearly explains when the theft deterrent systems is armed and when it is not. The text in red appears to be what i my desired operation of the system would be.

Unfortunately the operation of my truck is not the same as outlined in the provided detail. When i lock the truck with the door lock(not fob) then attempt to enter with the key(not fob) the alarm lights and horn sounds when i pull on the outside door handle. Alarm sounds continuously until i put the key in the ignition.

It's sounding like i am going to have to go to the dealer which i was hoping to avoid due to costs.

See the owners manual section 2-11 The info posted above is not correct on 2014 vehicles, you do not say what MY you have, but locking the door from the vehicle door switch will activate the alarm, locking the door with the key should not activate the alarm. Here is only a portion of the 2014 manual and manuals are available for download at Chevrolet.com

Arming the Alarm System

1. Turn off the vehicle.

2. Lock the vehicle with one of the

following:

. Use the RKE transmitter.

. With a door open, press Q

on the interior of the door.

3. After 30 seconds the alarm

system will arm, and the

indicator light will begin to slowly

flash indicating the alarm system

is operating. Pressing Q on the

RKE transmitter a second time

will bypass the 30-second delay

and immediately arm the alarm

system.

The theft-deterrent alarm system will

not arm if the doors are locked with

the key.

If the driver door is opened without

first unlocking the RKE transmitter,

the horn will chirp and the lights will

flash to indicate pre-alarm. If the

vehicle is not started, or the door is

not unlocked by pressing K on the

RKE transmitter during the

10-second pre-alarm, the alarm will

be activated.

If a door, the hood, is opened

without first disarming the system,

the turn signals will flash and the

horn will sound for about

30 seconds. The alarm system will

then re-arm to monitor for the next

unauthorized event.

Disarming the Alarm System

To disarm the alarm system or turn

off the alarm if it has been activated:

. Press K on the RKE transmitter.

. Start the vehicle.

To avoid setting off the alarm by

accident:

. Lock the vehicle after all

occupants have left the vehicle

and all doors are closed.

. Always unlock a door with the

RKE transmitter.

Unlocking the driver door with the

key will not disarm the system or

turn off the alarm.

How to Detect a Tamper

Condition

If K is pressed on the RKE

transmitter and the horn chirps three

times, an alarm occurred previously

while the alarm system was armed

It is this way because car thieves learned that you could simply punch the door lock with a screwdriver, or pick it and unlock the door and disarm the alarm. Happend to me, I like the way it is now needing the fob. Its 2016 it surprises me these trucks even still have ignition keys.

Old thread bump here.

But am I to understand that by unlocking my '17 with the factory key, the alarm is supposed to go off? Or it's at least normal?

I just tried it for the first time yesterday and was surprised by this. I guess I don't really see the point of the key hole if it sets the alarm off.

Try locking it with the key

I get the workarounds. I just find it odd that I can't properly unlock my truck with the key, regardless of how it was locked. :nonod:

The instructions in the red lettering is correct, problem is it is written in Chevroletese. The door lock button on the door is not the manual door lock, the button on top of the door and the keyhole lock are the manual lock. So use of "manual door locks"means don't touch any electrical door lock button leaving only the driver's door unlocked after exiting....."manual lock" is the keylock on the outside of the driver's door. So to do what you want all doors other than the driver's door must be locked before the driver exits the vehicle, then after this door is shut, use the key to lock the driver's door.....no alarm set so no alarm on reentry.

The alarms only real purpose is to inconvenience the owner. It's 2017 and times change, a thief shows up with a 1 ton with a stinger and it's gone in 40 seconds.

the point of the key hole is if your fob's battery dies, you still have a way of getting into your car.

But then the truck's alarm goes off. Just like I'd punched out a window.

I guess I just learned to not use the key to unlock the door. This thread has taught me that this is a "feature" rather than a "bug" on GM's part. :dunno:
