Buying experience wanted re: 2015 vs 2016

We don't know exactly what the differences will be when the 2016 is released but I am sure they will add some "improvements". I am going to be in a position to buy at the end of this year in November or December. My original thought was to get a 2015 and take advantage of $10-12k off MSRP that shouldn't be too difficult to get at that time of the year. My question is, will there be similar deals available for the 2016s? Will the dealership "deal" on the 2016 models at that time of the year? Am I off base by thinking that the dealership will still come down ~$10k at the end of the year (including available incentives, rebates, etc.) on a 2016 model? What was your experience? Did you get a 2014 at the end of 2014 and get a good deal? Did you get a 2015 at the end or beginning of 2015 and get a good deal? What time of the year did you buy and how much did you get of MSRP? (you can be vague here, I am not interested in your exact experience and the details are really non of my business.)

You could try and get a deal on a 2016 around Christmas or end of December. But I bet dealers won't budge much on a 2016. 2015 deals should be really good if you can find what you want sitting on a lot somewhere. Remember to check Laura GMC for some price matching / negation with your local dealer.

I bought my 2014 In Nov 2014, they gave me 11k off MSRP, I inquired about the 2015s on the lot and they offered $2500 off so there was big incentive for me to buy the 2014. I also believe the warranty is being cut in half for the 2016s so.....

That is a good point about the warranty. I think a 2015 cc short box LT 5.3 Allstar edition will still be plentiful at the end of the year. The dealer I visited last weekend said that is 90% of what they stock. A quick search on available inventory shows over 160 in my area in that configuration.

I purchased my 2014 at the start of October when the 2015's were just starting to hit the lots. I got approximately $10000 off sticker as well. I ended up getting Extended 6 year bumper to bumper warranty, Tire Warranty, and all taxes (10% provincial and federal combined), for less than the original MSRP of my truck.

I ordered my 15 Denali in dec and got it march 7 2015, almost 9k off msrp with rebates. There are plenty of threads about what people paid and people suggesting laura gmc.

 

Doesn't matter when you get the truck, they should be meeting laura gmc prices imo or I wouldn't buy

I wouldn't expect as big of discounts this year, I think the 15's will be hot because of the warranty unless the make some drastic changes for 16 to make people want them more

There are big discounts every year and a whole lot of 15s on the lots right now. I am not concerned that they won't deal or offer huge incentives on the 15's. Just like they do every year. They already went to $8500 off msrp for Memorial Day.

It seems like it not long after the old models are gone that they start to discount the new models heavily. I was looking at buying around Christmas and they were giving me as a good of a deal on the 2015's as they had selling out the 2014's. Their cost is always going to be around the same, so the deals should always be pretty good if you find a good dealer willing to discount.

Also the 16's will run Android Auto and CarPlay and can't help but be more reliable the longer you wait.

Unless they make significant changes for 16, it'll likely be a wash. Some say more bugs may be worked out by then, but thats a stretch. Its not like they flip a switch. One day its a 15, next its a 16. So to speak, of course.

 

I don't think the warranty change will affect sales at all. Most people fall into the 10-12k miles per year range, so the change will be negligible. Sales didn't rocket with the 100k warranty and they won't plummet by going back to 60k.

 

I think you'll be fine either way. The 15s should have good deals from now to the end of the year, but selection will get smaller as the discounts get larger.

There will likely be some changes the day they switch from 15 to 16, just like there was when they switch from 14 to 15.

And they also make 'running changes' whenever it suits.

 

There are pages of them for the 2015 model year so far. What colours are available. What option is required with what. Special edition vehicles. Items become standard or are deleted from certain trim levels.

Looks like Laura GMC in St. Louis takes around 10K off MSRP for a well equipped truck right now. You'd have to factor in the cost of a plane ticket and gas back to wherever you live, but that may be worth it.
