I seen a GMC dc with a plain bumper on the rear, I thought all the new trucks had cutout step up bumpers on the rear.

I seem to remember early in the '14 build season, there was a A/T or Denali model that could be ordered without the rear steps. This was later discontinued.

I'm sure someone else will chime in that remembers the details...

I could be wrong, but I believe I read on here that those were the real early builds. Not sure how long they were building the K2s before updating the rear bumper, but I'm sure it wasn't long at all. Maybe a month or less?

Yep saw a black All Terrain SLT at a dealer when I was shopping. I was confused when I saw it since I'd never seen one either. Dealer didn't even know why it didn't have the steps. This July of last year.

Maybe they retrofitted a 900 bumper to fit or something. There might be aftermarket brands that don't have the step at this point ad well

The early 2014 trucks got the non step bumper, then it became part of the denali option package and then GM dropped it and only went with the stepped bumper I belive.

OMG how do you get in the back of your truck? Do you have to carry a ladder everywhere you go?

Probably has to do it like they used to o it back in the old days (2013), Jump!.

Just be cause we didn't have it before doesn't mean it's not an improvement. I'm only 5'9" so the corner steps help me a lot. I also like that they're on the corners so I can open the tailgate and still get up there pretty easily. Where as before I would have to use the middle step, hop in and then open the tailgate or if it's already down I would have to stretch just to step up on the bumper. I still jump over the side of the bed to get out unless it's loaded with something. I did like the slide out step that Ford did, but not all have it and the tailgate has to be down to use so the corner steps can be used either way and probably cheaper to do than those slide out steps.

i guess they are useful to people that are in and out of the bed a lot but for me i hate them. would much rather have a smooth bumper. the early bumpers with no foot step were only painted and all the early painted had no step. the supplier couldn't figure out painted bumper and foot step fast enough. once they did they all got the step.

I go in and out of my bed every week it seems, especially to go into my toolbox where I still can't get to something in the middle from using the side steps or if it's just too heavy for me to pull out of the toolbox while on the step so I just hop in the bed to get the heavier stuff. Someone with a lowered truck (especially a performance truck) I could understand wanting the smooth bumper, but if you do use get in and out of the bed then the ingenious steps are more than worth it. Also I can see how a taller person wouldn't find much use for them since they should be able to step up on the top of the bumper, but I'm 5'9" and I'm not getting any younger lol. I'm sure it won't be much longer where I won't be able to jump over the side of the bed to get out. I notice without thinking that I'm starting to get both in and out using the bumper step where before to get out I would always jump over the side.

oh i use it sometimes but it is still horribly ugly to me

I like looks, but I prefer functional over looks and love when it's the best of both worlds. Same as my toolbox, sure a low pro box would look better but I actually need the normal size box with all the crap I put it in and sometimes I can barely close the box I have so I have to adjust some things for the box to shut lol. Also me being OCD I noticed how they have the back edge of each step lined up with the seam between the fender/taillight and tailgate. I also don't think it's ugly, but maybe it's one of those things that you and other people might have to get used to? I was the same way when GM came out with the "cat eye" headlights on the 03-06 Silverados.
