Oil change intervals

I got 2 of the 4 free Dealer oil changes. Not a bad deal, but my work schedule is so crazy, I don't feel like spending Saturday morning sitting around with other rubes drinking bad coffee waiting 4hrs for a oil change to get it back and have them send it back in for the proper wheel rotation that I asked for and is clearly shown in the owner's manual. So I now do them myself. And I did get a GOLD PLUG magnetic plug. Wal-mart has the AC Delco PF63 OEM filter for $7. They have Valvoline Synpower 0-20 or M1 extended 0-20. Both Dexos 1 approved products for our trucks. I run a fully syn oil that meets the specs and a OEM PF63 filter. I run it the full interval per the oil life meter, which IMO is right on the money; 7,500 miles. I haven't been driving hard or towing. I'm at 6% left on the meter, planning a change next weekend. OLM is taking to the full 7500 this go around. the one before was around 6,800 but I was towing and driving harder. Proper thing to do is run the OEM filter, run full syn that meets spec and get your money out of the OLM that GM put on the truck. Check your oil level ever few tanks of fuel. Move on in life...

Just like GM recommends. The OLM has taken me to 9000 when driving like granny. The algorithm works like it should. No tiny magnets or oil analysis in my routine. M1 oil. GM spent a ton of money on OLM not just for you, but also to save them from preventable warranty actions by reminding forgetful owners to change oil. That'd be me. I'm also betting it records the OLM % & mileage vs reset mileage, for their analysis. GM has more data on this subject than any of us. I will try to follow their recommendations.

Life's short. I don't want to use much of it on stuff that has low entertainment value. I think that captures how Bass mechanic, myself, and others feel about oil changes. Ask your wife what her opinion of oil changes is. I'm betting of you get a blank stare. She isn't using much of her life on this low entertainment stuff.

Exactly! Why worry about things like this!

These days you can tell which cars don't have an oil maintenance light. They are the fairly new cars you see blowing blue smoke all over the road usually with a woman behind the wheel. You know she didn't change the oil, probably doesn't have a maintenance light and no man around to pay attention to stuff like oil changes either

did you even read my post?

any car with 100k miles on it is a POS i don't keep them that long! those cars are someone else problem..

Yeah, unfortunately I struggled through it. Talk about wasting time!

Sorry, but you are wrong again. I would imagine any car that you previously owned is a pos by then though.

What ever happened to that super duper charged truck you had. Dump it off on some poor sole overdue for an oil change?

Anyone that thinks that OLM does anything but click off 1% for every 75 miles sure isn't driving the same truck I am. It doesn't care what the driving conditions are, or the run hours on the clock are, just miles.

i do recommend you install a magnetic drain plug a simple solution to keep those pesky metal shavings from circulating about the engine! lol but at least you know where those particles are ending up.

Now if only they'd make a magnet that works on aluminum (and titanium and tungsten for you Z06 owners).

You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to change my first oil change at 8,000 just out of spite for you!

I really couldn't give 2 shits what you think about how and when I change my oil.

You can change yours as frequent as you like I'm already over you.

I have taken oil samples on the first few changes on the new truck and have to say on a new engine changing the oil sooner will remove more contaminants from the building and sealing of the new engine. First 2 oil samples with oil changed at 5000 miles intervals were flagged critical. Once some miles were put on I was able to increase intervals.

I recommend just doing what floats your boat, doesn't matter what Joe dirt or Joe moneybags does.

Just like nobody here gives 2 shits about that book you wrote back there about why we shouldn't change our oil. It's like listening to a 10 year old kid telling us how to maintain our 30 year old car.

It's quite obvious that you have no experience at maintaining a vehicle for any length of time or miles. But you wrote a book about it anyway. Just like all the other experts that have never done it.

The first two are the most critical like mentioned above. People with your vast knowledge are why I would never consider a used vehicle without either knowing the person or seeing the service records.

Good luck with that 8000 mile oil change. LMAO!

That's interesting. Did the lab highlight anything in particular that contributed to the contaminants? Is it possible that something in your normal usage pattern might have caused unusual buildup of contaminants?

Funny how guys on this thread like to dog guys for changing their oil before the OLM hits zero, yet GM recently changed the first scheduled oil change for 2015 Corvettes to 500 miles. Yes, if you bought a C7 Corvette your first oil change is at 500 miles.
