Hello Boys and Gurls, and Merry Christmas!

Since I already received my XMas present (obviously) I wanted to ask a question about spare Keys and Remotes:

How does one economically acquire spare factory keys and remotes? Is the Dealer the only source? I know they need to be programmed.

There is a website called Car and Truck Remotes that has the GMC remote, unprogrammed, for $59.95. But no Keys!

Ho, Boy. Anybody know how to get remotes AND keys on the cheap, able to be programmed at a reasonable cost by a local locksmith?

Thanks;

You just bought a $50k truck. I think a spare set of keys is worth any equivalently priced modification.

Remotes can be programmed yourself following the owners manual. Keys need the dealer to program them

Well, maybe I'm coming off as being a bit too thrifty. I just don't want to a GMC Dealership and die from sticker shock over a remote and a key.

What would I expect to pay for these, programmed, at the Dealer?

I ordered new chrome remotes off eBay from a reputable seller. Made sure they were program ready and brought them to my dealer and told them they just stopped working. So they wrote it up as a warranty job and programmed them for free

Remotes were $19.99 on ebay

I can't find the link. But if you type in 2014 Silverado remote. They have a few of the all black ones for cheap and the chrome ones are about 10$ more still better than 95$ from the dealer and then 150 to program. Just order it and say it stopped working

Check this out... I went to the dealer here locally and just for a WT KEY $65. For the damn key I tell you!! I am taking the key to a friend that has a CNC milling machine that says he can copy it.

I ordered a couple extra keys and remotes online and had the keys cut locally and programmed them and the remote myself using instructions in the owner's manual.

I ordered a key for my 14 Silverado, that has that cut like it would take a vertical mill to make in the key. Mine was $70 cut from the dealer. Also this was in early spring of 14...

I just called the dealer today as i want a spare key only. I don't need a 3rd remote. They told me keys were 40 dollars each.

There is a company that makes rubber sleeves that the key fob slips into... I don't care for the rubber coating. If the key fob ends up in your pocket it attacks lint and fuzz balls.

There may be some ebay sellers that have the hard plastic sleeves that your use your insides of the remote you have and just switch out the inners.
