Tow rope, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, basic tool kit, lighter, waterproof matches, fuses, flashlight, cell phone charger, and toilet paper.

In winter I add a basic winter survival kit and aluminum scoop shovel

Recovery strap, D-rings, hitch pin, tools, jumper cables, ratchet straps, and phone charger. They are always in my truck.

For winter - headlamp, winter gloves and hat, and shovel. Very helpful when you are out in the middle of nowhere and helping someone who is stuck in the ditch. Also have a big warm blanket. I always picture someone getting in a crash and being stuck in their car with windows broken and -20f wind chill. Hypothermia could kill you before other crash injuries.

I keep a pair of needle nose pliers in the truck also. We have parking meters that accept credit cards. Sometimes the parking meters F*&K up and you can't get your credit card out. -30 will do that. Pliers gets it out.

After getting stuck the other day, I'm thankful I have my new 30' recovery strap. Best $35 I've spent in a while.

I have a recovery strap and a chain. Although, what's a good length (of either chain or strap) to have? Mine are about 6ft apiece. The chain is also only for "light duty use only" and I wouldn't ever think to use it to pull out my truck or anyone of similar size/weight.

I'm considering getting a heavier duty chain and say at least 12 to 15 feet.

Opinions? Thanks in advance!

Hey dlh4bb 4 wheeler magazine says "kinetic recovery rope, such as one from VooDoo Offroad, stretches to absorb energy and then helps to free the stuck vehicle when it returns to its original length. You can get a running start with these straps, but dont try this with a normal tow rope or a chain." They say never use a chain.

I put this photo in the road trip thread also.

Tools:

Craftsman tool kit for sockets and wrenches

screwdrivers (There is a multi-bit set in the toolkit, but for obvious reasons stand alone screwdrivers are more handy.)

pliers / needle nose / adjustable

Mag Lite

Mechanix gloves

tie downs (6)

recovery strap (30' x 30k lbs)

wood handle steel mallet

jumper cables

GM cargo hooks

knife (Walmart special that I am not afraid to ruin, not a good carrying knife)

bungee cords

duct tape

MISSING: small hatchet

I just purchased a battery box for under the hood. I will put a few things in there, not sure my cables will fit. They are heavy duty extra long.

In the glove compartments/console I always have:

napkins

antacid

motrin

tire gauge

pens

a sharpie

small notepad

extra phone charging cable

extra phone battery

The only thing I might add is a small first aid kit, or just a pack of band-aids since I already have motrin and tums. I do have duct tape and napkins so probably don't need band-aids.

Once I put some things under the hood, I am going to grab a small air compressor/battery jump pack to fit under the rear seat.

I like to be prepared for anything, and it takes up essentially zero space in my truck since it's all hidden under the rear seat and stuff in the glove box.

I'm not afraid to break down, but this way I can assist friends who don't have tools at their house, provide roadside assistance to someone else broken down, and feel safe when I go off the beaten path.

Huge First aid kit, cargo net, snow cables, tow rope w/ D-ring, jumper cables, shovel, fire extinguisher, leatherman tool along with a pocket knife, gloves, tie down straps w/ hooks, duct tape, flashlight, cell phone charger, pen, & notebook. During the winter I add 3 bags of sand. Hubby wants to add a winch to our gear. I am desperate for a tool box. Then again, if I really want to bring everything, I just hook up my 22 foot trailer.
