14 Silverado Remote Start Add on with Onstar App...it works

Hello All

i apologize if this information is available somewhere else on this forum. I recently had my dealer add the Remote Start to my 14 Silverado. As many around the web have mentioned, the onstar app does not automatically update to show the Remote Start options under the Key Fob tab and many have been told by onstart customer service it can not be done. I decided to go with the "Paper Trail" route and send an email from the Onstar Website. I wanted to post this to help anyone else that finds not having the remote start option as a pain in the butt.

1) Choose the "Contact Us" tab on the Onstar website.

2) Inform them that your Dealer recently added the OEM Remote Start package to your vehicle. The dealer flashed and updated the Onstar Module and suggested that you contact Onstar Tier 2 Tech would be able to update the parameters/build data of your vehicle to have the app work with the remote start.

3)Wait a day, Onstar will call you to update you that they are forwarding your request to the Tier 2 techs to update your build data.

4)Wait another day then they will call back to tell you it is complete and to log out of the app then log back in to see it.

I was super surprised how easy it was to have this done as i have read many places it could not be done. I hope yall have the same success that I did.

I paid the dealer to install the Remote Start kit almost a year ago but I have no idea if they "re-flashed and updated the Onstar Module". Any way I could tell this? You think there is any harm in following your steps if they didn't due that task?

I honestly have no idea how you can tell. I'm pretty certain that nothing bad will happen as OnStar is only updating their system showing you have the OEM remote start.

Did you specifically ask the dealer to "re-flash and update the Onstar Module"? Or did they tell you they did it after?

Neither. I just took a stab in the dark by telling OnStar this to help push the process through. I can tell you I have a 10/13 build and the vcim (OnStar) module is capable of it since it worked for mine.

I finally got around to calling OnStar last week to enable the app. I told them everything you outlined and today they completed the update! Remote start now works via the app. Thanks again for the info.

I had to actually call to submit the ticket. I pressed the onstar button and asked for level 2 tech support and explained what has been described above.

I got transferred to IT. They submitted a ticket. Then someone from IT called me back in a day or two confirming the issue and indicated they are working on it. Few days later they left a voice message saying it was completed.

Glad to hear it worked for you as well. When I did it, I was surprised how easy it was and that there was no fighting with them to get a simple function added to their app.

I called them and they are now working on it. Lady over the phone said in 3 to 5 days I'll get a call back from their tech to let me know everything is good, and that I might see the function of the remote start on the app before then.

I wonder if they would be the wiser and not even know you have the remote kit installed........

It'd be nice to have this feature without carrying a fob or installing the kit.
