For the occasional "would be nice to have 4wd right now", I think you made a good choice. If you were complaining cause you were in the woods all the time and wishing, then you would have made the wrong choice.

Thank you all for your input and opinions! I do love my truck and after hearing what you all had to say....i am good! You all were right...i probably would "need" 4WD once or twice where i live in a year...so with that being said A BIG THANK YOU to all of you!

Also the sand bag idea is a good one and will probably pick some of those up (i live near the Tractor Supply Company).

But i will say i will be getting my 2" leveling kit and new tires...and i can't wait! LOL

countless people on here mentioned every week how they wish they had a certain option. Leather, sliding rear glass, navi, 6.2.. whatever it is. I would be sick if I had to pay this much money for a truck I wasn't 100% happy with.

You are right brother....thanks!

OP, living down south unless you are off roading you don't need it, period. So why pay for it? Is it an image thing? Does it make you feel less masculine? Enjoy your truck, if it has everything you want then why whine about something you don't need or will use?

Down here I chuckle almost every time I see one of those box checker 4x4's knowing they mostly are for image and will never use it (the FX4 Platinum, Longhorn, High Country 4x4's ect). Can tell by a quick look at the underside if it is used or not.

An interesting quota by Dave Ramsey that applies to the auto world

"We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like"

Never understood the insecurity and horrible financial choice that some people make to live to up to that quote. Your truck looks good, those wheels are one of my fav (look good and easy maintenance). Enjoy the truck, appreciate the savings (gas, up front costs, insurance, maintenance, ect) and realize you are being smart.

Great quote and thanks for the insight!

In my opinion it's not a truck unless it has 4WD. The only time I would purchase a 2WD truck would be to build a pre-runner with a long travel suspension or a lowered street for performance.

I moved from Moody a couple years ago. Live in Pell City now but have a lot of friends in Moody. I lived in Creek View. my best friend owns Southern Tool down the road from you. But if I had to regret "1" thing it would be that i did not get the 22s like on your truck. I really like those or the 22s in the version I have. I plan on Putting a BDS 6-7" in a few weeks with 35s. Do i need it not really about like i needed a light bar behind the grill but always wanted to do it SO....

I also live in N Ala. I had a 2WD Ram for 7 years and in all that time only needed more once (got stuck in a wet front yard moving a piano). Prior to that I had a 2WD Dakota for 8 years and only neeed 4wd once (got off the road into some sand at the beach). That being said, my 16 is 4wd, mainly because of the deal I got. I dont go offroading and try to stay home during snow so I'm not sure I will use it

I need 4WD, as I live in a snow state, but even if I did not, I would never buy a Truck or SUV without 4WD.

You never need it until you need it.

I might only need 4wd once or twice a year, but when I need it I really need it.

At a minumum I have seen enough 2wd trucks spinning tires on wet boat ramps to justify the cost for me.

Always go 4wheel drive,It's there if you need it,It looks better, and value stays up better

And you also pay more up front for a 4wd, higher cost of maintenance during ownership, and usually worse mpg which is more expense. Take that in to consideration of overall end value. But then again, that same argument could be had for me getting a 6.2 with the max tow package. :driving: In the end I did not have a need for 4wd.

:nonod: Because you paid more upfront on it (which you might recoup half that depending on the area) and it looks the same as 2wd in the half ton trucks (some ride heights), can't tell any difference...

So let's say you need it 3 times over the course of say 6 years because you got stuck. A tow is maybe $100, let's say $200 just to help the worthless arguement. People would rather spend almost 4k for the option as opposed to using their head a little (and paying for a tow a couple times) to not have to get a tow possibly? Yeah, smart financial planning there! Not... On top of the added maintenance, gas, insurance, ect of having it day to day. But to be able to tell people you have a 4wd truck and are an alpha male, priceless!

You are planning to call a tow truck if your 2wd truck starts slipping on a boat ramp? Or I guess just plan ahead and load up bags of sand for weight before going.

I don't want to have the hassle of storing, loading, and unloading sandbags. Or calling a tow truck to pull my truck out of the muddy launch at 5am deep in the woods when I am duck hunting (if that is even possible). I can pay some money and not worry about any of that.

    • Ahh, sorry about that - I got some bad info. Newdude is correct. That's what I get for working 13 hours straight ... on my "vacation", lol.   Should've checked the files I had instead of the internet.   Anyway ... this is GREAT news, since this would've been an absolute friggin nightmare to get working.   I don't think the lack of VVT is causing this - you've got another issue. Wiring, I'm betting.   I'm telling you right now, your computer isn't bad. If it worked before the swap, it's working now. You need to do some more (better) diagnostics and figure out exactly what you're missing. Did you test every wire directly at the MAF? Have 5V reference? Ground? If you're reading ZERO g/s, your Hz isn't much use - it's going to be the wrong value anyway. The MAF is not working, and you need to find out WHY.   I got this off the net, so VERIFY first: Pin A: Black (BLK) wire, Circuit 552, serves as the Sensor Return (Ground).  Pin B: Tan (TAN) wire, Circuit 472, carries the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) signal.  Pin C: Yellow (YEL) wire, Circuit 492, is the primary MAF Sensor Signal output to the PCM. Pin D: Pink (PNK) wire, Circuit 339 or 539, provides Ignition 1 Voltage (Power).  Pin E: Tan/Black wire, Circuit 552 or similar, often associated with the Intake Air Temperature ground or signal return.  Global-A list: https://postimg.cc/KKJnQC85
    • Correct....the end user can't reach to Realtruck directly like they can if they purchase a Bak, Undercover, etc...  It has to go through a dealer.
    • It is 4wd. shop told me it is the slip yoke. But not sure.
    • No, I did not tune out vvt. From what I read it should still be able to run without it, it'll just lose some torque/power.    I can see how that would make it not run correctly, but why would that cause the faulty MAF readings?   EDIT: I just ran a quick test and checked, and as I expected, the computer sees that the VVT cam phaser solenoid is not present, and throws a code for it, and does not try to change the cam angle at all. Commanded position just remains at zero, 100% of the time. This makes me think that the VVT is most likely not the cause of the problem though if anyone has a different/better explanation, I'm all ears.   UPDATE: I was able to find that my scan tool does indeed support reading the frequency (hz) off of the MAF (I thought it wasn't supported but turns out I just didn't know where to look for it). I noticed that regardless of engine state it always however this Is not what I observed with my multimeter. Like I said before, the MAF seems to put out a normal signal during cranking and then the signal drops to a very erratic reading once the engine is running. It seems from what my scan tool is telling me that the ECM is not recognizing this at all, and just reads 0 Hz 100% of the time. This pushes me towards the the PCM itself is faulty. I I have the PCM out of the 2007 donor vehicle, which I may try to connect and program (it's only ~50 bucks to get the software for a one-time programming)
    • Did you tune out the VVT?  07-09 they did not have VVT.  2010-2013 they did.      If you haven't tuned it, its trying to adjust cam timing.
