Coming from a street truck geard for performance and being 2" frame off pavement static drop i went with a 4WD....there were plenty of time where i had my slammed truck and was like man if only i could hop the median on the road and get to that gas station while in traffic and having to pee real bad..... Lol

Other then that i work all over the US so snow is a constant threat

If your going to buy a new truck definatly fet the 4x4 if thats what you want. Most people that say "I really do not need 4 wheel drive because I would never use it" regret not buying the 4x4. If that is the case then most of us wouldnt be driving V8s because we rarely use it. I kept my old truck that i have always wish was 4x4, especially after it was paid for and i didnt mind taking it on hunting trips and got stuck on slick shallow mud a couple of times. I probably would have waited a lot longer if i would have bought a new truck if i would have 4x4. Bottom line----BUY WHAT YOU LIKE you will want it longer.

I drove a 2000 5.3L ex. cab Z71 for 11 years. LOVED that truck. Bought as close as I could this time around (2015 DC, 5..3L Z71), even went with the dark blue (old truck is avatar pic). I live in SC, but I take a trip to western NY to see family at least every other winter. That trip alone makes it worth it. We also had a terrible storm here last week where we got 7" of snow where I live in SC. I went wherever I wanted. No way my Mustang would have made it out of the drive. The biggest issue with a "southern snow or ice storm" is that when we get hit, only the main roads get cleaned, and even that takes 2-3 days sometimes. We had a storm 2 years ago where 2 of the roads I take to work had significant ice/snow on them for 4 or 5 days before it all finally melted.

All that said, I wish I had gotten fully loaded seats with leather (adding katzkin). Kinda pissed my wife's seat doesn't have lumbar (2LT Z71) when my old LS Z71 had it. My seat is power everything so I didn't even look when I bought the truck. Now she complains on long trips.

Ok so first let me start off by saying that i absolutely love my truck....unfortunately i do i have one regret.......i went with 2WD instead of 4WD. I live in Alabama and i know we do not get much snow or ice and i don't think i will ever go mudding or be stuck in the mud (knock on wood), but for some reason i think i should have went 4WD.

What do you all think? And please make me feel better about my purchase LOL!

This whole post is a little tongue in cheek.

Thanks in advance and happy truckin!

Neal,

I live in the North East, hunt and fish with all my spare time, before purchasing my 2015 I drove a 1999 S10 that I put 300,000 miles on it. In all those miles I " needed" 4WD maybe two dozen times!!!! For all the other years and miles I carried the extra hardware of 4WD around. Yes I like having it, but from a PRACTICAL sense I obviously could have been fine without it!

Enjoy your truck, GM did a great job with em!

You are planning to call a tow truck if your 2wd truck starts slipping on a boat ramp? Or I guess just plan ahead and load up bags of sand for weight before going.

I don't want to have the hassle of storing, loading, and unloading sandbags. Or calling a tow truck to pull my truck out of the muddy launch at 5am deep in the woods when I am duck hunting (if that is even possible). I can pay some money and not worry about any of that.

Amen that!!?

I would've loved 4wd but I honestly couldn't afford it. It was almost 6k more to get 4wd where I bought my truck. I couldn't justify it as I'll NEVER use it, it would only be a "for fun" thing. I settled a bit by not getting a 2LT either but again, I don't need that stuff right now. Over all I'm super happy with my truck and as simple as it is, I still get compliments that make me feel warm and fussy inside :)

However, you better believe my next truck will be a High Country 4WD! :fingersx:

:nonod: Because you paid more upfront on it (which you might recoup half that depending on the area) and it looks the same as 2wd in the half ton trucks (some ride heights), can't tell any difference...

So let's say you need it 3 times over the course of say 6 years because you got stuck. A tow is maybe $100, let's say $200 just to help the worthless arguement. People would rather spend almost 4k for the option as opposed to using their head a little (and paying for a tow a couple times) to not have to get a tow possibly? Yeah, smart financial planning there! Not... On top of the added maintenance, gas, insurance, ect of having it day to day. But to be able to tell people you have a 4wd truck and are an alpha male, priceless!

Maybe you'd rather save a couple bux and sit there and wait on a tow (most likely in crappy weather when EVERYBODY is needing a tow), but it's moments like these that the extra money is worth every penny and more - if it lessens the odds of getting into that situation.

I've had 2wd trucks, and 4wd drive trucks. Nothing wrong with either of them. The honest truth is, the one winter up north when I couldn't get my 2wd truck out of the driveway was the last time I had a 2wd truck. I don't need it so much now, but I like the insurance of it being there if/when I do happen to need it.

To each their own. Enjoy what you got. We each make decisions based on what is more important to us individually. You don't mind inconvenience if it saves you money (my best friend is like that too). I don't mind spending money if it can save me from being inconvenienced. Bravado gots nothin' to do with it, at least for me.

Be happy with the beautiful truck that you have. Some people would give anything to be able to say they have your truck...It will do everything you ever need it to do for you!!

What do you do where a couple bucks is around $4k?

It may lessen the odd of getting in a particular situation but it also can increase the odds of getting in a much worse situation...

"Bravado gots nothin' to do with it, at least for me" - That is what they all say, especially down here in the south...

I agree to each their own, it is just funny how and why some justify their own.

I regret not getting a standard bed on my '15 all terrain slt plus. But i quickly realized that there are very very few of those made in my exact configuration. I literally love everything about my truck, I just wish it was standard bed.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
