Ok so first let me start off by saying that i absolutely love my truck....unfortunately i do i have one regret.......i went with 2WD instead of 4WD. I live in Alabama and i know we do not get much snow or ice and i don't think i will ever go mudding or be stuck in the mud (knock on wood), but for some reason i think i should have went 4WD.

What do you all think? And please make me feel better about my purchase LOL!

This whole post is a little tongue in cheek.

Thanks in advance and happy truckin!

I say if you love the truck no harm. I did the same thing, I wanted the V8 but ended up with a V6 configured exactly the way I wanted for a better price. I don't tow at all, so I'm satisfied with more money in my pocket each month.

I am the opposite lol. I really missed having my 4wd truck and my older 4wd lifted vehicles. I did not need a 4wd but I wanted one. Now that I have had it a few months I am wondering if I should have stuck with the 2wd lol. I aldreay leveled it, bigger tires, running boards and it will maybe go into 4wd max 4 times a year lol. in years past I only needed 4wd maybe a handful of times. I flipping love my truck now way more than the day I got so no regrets!

countless people on here mentioned every week how they wish they had a certain option. Leather, sliding rear glass, navi, 6.2.. whatever it is. I would be sick if I had to pay this much money for a truck I wasn't 100% happy with.

I'm guessing when you get ice/snow in Alabama it doesn't stick around long. Either way having some additional weight in the bed can definitely help traction. I have (4) 60 lb sand bags in my bed plus about 125 lbs of portable ice fishing house and I think that helps with traction.

OP, living down south unless you are off roading you don't need it, period. So why pay for it? Is it an image thing? Does it make you feel less masculine? Enjoy your truck, if it has everything you want then why whine about something you don't need or will use?

Down here I chuckle almost every time I see one of those box checker 4x4's knowing they mostly are for image and will never use it (the FX4 Platinum, Longhorn, High Country 4x4's ect). Can tell by a quick look at the underside if it is used or not.

An interesting quota by Dave Ramsey that applies to the auto world

"We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like"

Never understood the insecurity and horrible financial choice that some people make to live to up to that quote. Your truck looks good, those wheels are one of my fav (look good and easy maintenance). Enjoy the truck, appreciate the savings (gas, up front costs, insurance, maintenance, ect) and realize you are being smart.

I needed a truck, my 01 suburban had well over 300k. Stupid things kept breaking and i kept fixing lol. I shopped around. Came to conclusion i couldnt afford 2500 series the way i wanted. I found a 14 high country and got it for a great price. Only down fall is no 8 foot bed, sux but plan on upgrading when i can to a 2500 series. Other than that love the truck.

This is an excellent idea when those slick days come in to play. Your truck looks sharp looks like a good buy to me.

Not everyone can get the 6.2 option. Trust me if it was offered I would have gotten it.

I also live in Alabama and have a 2wd. I dont hunt, nor go offroading of any type, plus i baby my truck. All that said, i have no need for a 4wd... BUT i know the resale value will take a hit when the time comes to part ways with her, as everyone here in the deep south wants a 4wd and a 2wd around here has much less appeal

I got a 4x4 because it's hilly around here and we do get some nasty winter weather. I had my Sierra for two years and I've had my Silverado for about a month. I probably put it in AUTO or 4x4 High on the road a couple dozen times and almost none of those times I really 'needed' it, it just made it easier

i have use 4x4 alot it makes it easier when pulling cars i have help pull broken down 18 wheelers before is just a fun option to have it is better to have it an not need it than to need it and not have it

I hunt and fish a lot, those are my only real uses for 4x4. To be honest, I never put it in 4x4 to get where I'm going, I only use it to get out when I'm stuck! :rollin:

After many years and many 2WD trucks, I finally bought a 4WD this time. I travel a bit and pull a small (compared to many) travel trailer. Two or three times a year I wish I had 4WD - mostly from snow on the road or a muddy campsite. Now I do.

Time will tell if I made the right choice.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
