I run the Signature Series 5w30 in my Cruze 1.4L. It also comes out with a red tint to it. Doesn't look red when new, but after a while it turns red when I check it on the dipstick.

Interesting. You should have an analysis done to see what's up... I have put 600 miles on since I changed oil and it's still just clear/gold. I rack up miles so it won't take long to see what happens.

I keep saying I'm going to send in a sample, but I never get around to it. I'm going to be giving the car to my Fiancé to drive for school, and her internship so I'll probably switch to Pennzoil Platinum since it's cheaper, and easier to come by.

What color is Amsoil Signature series synthetic out of the bottle? I did a google search for "Amsoil Signature series synthetic" and it only showed a picture of the ATF fluid which is deep red. All the other photos shows sealed bottles. That got me to thinking, are you SURE that every bottle was engine oil? and if it was all engine oil, what color was the contents of each bottle?

It's like golden amber color.

I have Amsoil Sig Series in my truck right now. I checked the oil the other day, and I have about 2000 miles on the change, but it did not look red on the dipstick at all.

As an update my oil analysis kits are in transit now. The salesguy had never heard of an issue of redness and is quite familiar with samples of Amsoil as they do plenty of it. Amsoil contacted my buddy that deals for them and wanted a form filled out as well as a sample submitted to them to see what is going on. They mentioned the one racing oil they sell does go red and requested the batch number from the jugs. I of course had tossed most of them but the ones I have including one from that box all have the same number so it's pretty safe that this batch I have is the same batch number as the other case.... I ordered and purchased them together.

Now it's just more waiting to see what happens. For the next 8 days unless something happens my truck will accumulate basically zero miles....... I drive it to work at the beginning of shift.... park it up there and ride back and forth with one of my employees....... what a scab for a boss huh lol. I pay him hourly for his truck ( it's billed out hourly as is mine) and if it keeps mine from getting no miles racked up.... all the better lol. It's a minimum 120 mile round trip a day otherwise.

I think it's just the normal change of engine oil from gold to black in worst case scenarios. Seeing how the Amsoil is a high grade oil I think the red tint is just the color change from heated older oil. The smell is another scenario. I haven't smelled too much oil lately.....

Amsoil is concerned and doesn't consider it normal for their regular synthetics so we shall see.

I did my first oil change a few weeks ago at 4500 miles. It was red and smelled like a solvent, almost like gas but not quite. And to be clear, this was the factory oil.

Odd... sounds like mine. But my truck already had around 4000 miles and was through 2 oil changes worth before the Amsoil. I had around 3000 miles on the stuff I dumped to go to Amsoil and it wasn't red or weird coming out... just normal used engine oil.

As an update I finally got my analysis completed and they found........... nothing. The oil was everything ordinary and had no odd properties about it. I sent a clean oil sample along with the used one to have them have a good base reference and even the sulphides, nitration and oxidization levels were completely normal..... well good in fact. Wear metals were nothing alarming and the viscosity was right in spec. I also had 0 coolant present and 0 fuel dilution.... so I don't know what to say. The current oil in the truck has about 3000 miles on it now and it's already red...... but I guess it's okay? Amsoil hasn't reported back yet but I don't think they will find anything worth noting either unless they come back that I have like the racing oil or something that does have a reddish hue. None the less the truck is well protected and that's all that matters. My next change however I am ditching the 5W20 and upping to 5W30 where it will stay for the rest of it's life. I am curious as when I do the viscosity swap if this red oil trend continues or if it stops with this particular batch of 5W20 I have.

My old 05 Sierra did the red thing too although nowhere near as severe and this last change showed high levels of nitration which could be a lot of things...... including it sits a ton, never gets warmed up when it's run and it's easily a year since I last changed the oil.... or more. None the less it's oil looked great otherwise too.

I would personally never worry about the color of the oil unless it showed coolant. Color is meaningless.

Well I get sick and tired of hearing how it is not normal from Amsoil themselves...... so I won't use anymore of this 5W20 I have and either sell it or dump it out. I am going to swap to 5W30 and maybe even try Mobil 1 to see if it does anything odd. Pretty sure it is something mostly localized to this batch of Amsoil I have. I bought 2 cases of 4 quart jugs so I still have 16 quarts of it or so.....

They even think I may have gotten mislabelled 5W20 Dominator racing oil as it is reddish in nature..... so time will tell.

The 5w30 Amsoil I use in my Cruze turns red also so it's no different than the 5w20.

So what I find interesting is why no one else notices it and Amsoil thinks its so abnormal. I really don't care if it truly normal but it must be something as of late as I have Amsoil for years and never had much of anything change color...... I am switching to Mobil 1 to see what color it changes too lol.

You sir are a very "different" individual.

The oil analysis showed the oil was in perfect condition so why are you sweating the color change so much?
