Just completed this process and I really couldn't be happier. To put it plainly, this is the factory radio we expected in the 2014's but never got from GM.

Getting the order in to MVI was simple, and the unit was turned around to me and programmed within a couple of days. I wasn't in a rush since I wouldn't be able to get to installing the radio for over a week. "Slow" shipping across the country took 3 days.

The installation was exactly as described in the included instructions and video. My professional installer took just 40 minutes including reading the instructions. His feedback was that the "hardest" part was removing the upper and lower glove box to access the HMI unit. But hard was relative since the rest was so easy to do and perfectly documented by MVI.

The factory UX is snappy with no lag. HD radio is there as advertised. SiriusXM works once you swap the radio ID with them online. One of the missing features I was glad to see was the favorites buttons now auto-label for SiriusXM (you no longer need to manually enter the station name).

My setup uses Android Auto (Nexus 6P) - and yeah :-) i can't stop smiling. Getting AA going involves downloading the Android Auto app from the Play Store. Then connect your phone using the USB ports in your console. You will then be asked a series of setup question and permission requests (depending on your version of Android on your phone). The AA UX follows Google's design standards so if you are running Android you already know how to get around and navigate the UI. Before leaving the parking lot I was already streaming my Google Play "Thumbs Up" playlist. If you idle on GPM while streaming you get a full-screen experience with album background. Notification of messages peek down from the top of the UX. If you idle on the home screen, you get your current music playing and a good number of cards that you'd normally see in your Google Now stack. Google Maps is excellent, including showing active traffic. When in Google Maps screen notifications (including song changes from Google Play Music) peek down from the top of the screen. I also tested MLB.TV and Tune In Radio. Both worked perfectly. Couldn't be happier. The only thing to keep in mind is if you have an Android device that you a USB cable to connect to your phone. If you have a Nexus 6P make sure to use a "safe" USB Type-C cable that has been vetted by Google's Benson Leung so you don't end up frying your devices with a non-spec cable. http://drd.life/21TK8MD

The whole process from ordering to installation and use is great. I'd definitely recommend doing this for anyone who is finding their factory radio lacking (like I did) and without reservation I'd recommend MVI for their great service in putting this together. I couldn't be happier - thanks Anthony and MVI...

Thanks for the great write up!! I'm an Apple user and not familiar with navigating Android....so this helps me tremendously as well. Thank you for the support!! Greatly appreciated

Finally had my 2016 updated to include Android from the dealer.

Anthony, I'll be texting you shortly to make arrangements to send you the HMI for the Nav unlock, video in motion, text in motion, etc.

Posted

Does the unlock features for the Nav/video in motion/full text function while in motion/etc...also unlock the Android Auto parked vehicle features as well.

Like on Android Auto, Google Maps let's you do a "pin drop" to navigate to your location.

Is this also enabled after the MVI unlock update?

I've got mine all installed. Hardest part was getting the damn trim pieces off the truck. Everything is so much faster having Google maps on my truck is amazing. I opted to remove navigation from my truck since the GM nav sucks, it also made it a lot cheaper. There is only one little problem I've seen, I have about 32 GB of music on an SD card. I can search through everything fine from the steering wheel controls and that works like it did before. But when browsing on the 8" screen I can still look through all of it, but if I select a song outside of the album I'm listening to it doesn't switch. It does through the steering wheel controls but on the screen itself it doesn't. But still not a problem to me as I love having Android auto. Mvi does amazing work very helpful if you need help and also connect on a personal level.

Travelling right now, but if I can muster the energy after wheeling around interstates in April snow for four days i'll see what I can do.

I upgraded my radio through mvi. Install was easy, hardest part was getting the trim piece off. I have a 15 denali I decided to remove the GM nav since it sucks anyways, made it cheaper as well. With Google maps now on my screen ID never use it anyways. The entire system reacts very fast Android auto is awesome to have. On the long drives there is no need to look at you phone can control everything through voice on the truck. Mvi is great to respond to questions with any help you need. The one thing I notice with the new hardware is when I browse through my 32 GB of music through my steering wheel controls and the screen it controls everything works fine. But if I browse through all my music on the 8" screen I can still look through all of it. But if I select a song in a different album nothing happens and it keeps playing the current song. Not a big deal hope it gets an update and fixed in the future. Still, Android audio is awesome to have!

Thanks to mvi and all there work!

Im working with another customer that is having a similar bug in a CTS...Its very strange. His is buggy with iPod, but similar complaint. Text me and I can keep you posted with any progress we make.

Questions...which port did you replace for the new CP/AA set up that allowed you to retain the SD ?

Does it act up only when plugged into AA/CP ? Or does it act the same whether you are plugged in or not ?

Now everything works fine..so I wonder if maybe the usb drive wasn't done indexing so it wouldn't switch between folders? Idk but now it's working as it should and that's awesome. I noticed before that sometimea depending if the USB drive is a 3.0 or a 2.0 effects it..in my experience a 2.0 has worked better in these trucks. Or maybe it's just how it's been formatted. If it's formatted as ex-fat my truck has all sorts of issues with it but formatted as NTSF it works great.

Has anyone had the chance to try out the Iphone mirroring option that MVI has? I understand that by mirroring your phone, you can stream Netflix and other movie apps to the in-car video system. I'm curious if it's as simple as plugging in the lighting cable to the USB port in the vehicle.

The mirroring setup will require you to plug into a newly installed USB/HDMI Port. You will not plug into the factory USB port...its added equipment. However, we just this week launched a completely plug and play setup. This interface has much better clarity and I believe we'll have the fix for being able to view the factory camera in motion as well. I'm hoping to have that finalized and documented this week...but it looks promising. This set up will also allow you to play video from the new USB port and its not nearly as picky as the GM system....I'll be playing with more formats this week, but the few random ones we tried worked without any formatting what so ever.

Here is the link showing the brief demo

Here is the thread on the smartphone mirroring. It is talking about the previous version, but there is some good info in there and I'll post some new info in there as well.

I left the other day and did not bring the Android cable with me...so no :nonod: . Sorry !!

Supplier has me backordered on parts and I had to pull it out of my vehicle to handle a customer order, so I haven't had it in my vehicle to play with for the last week. I'm hoping to have parts in early this week and I'll get back on it.

I've also lost your number in the sea of messages...so it will be helpful if you text me again so I can let you know something as soon as I get the parts installed again.
