He can get the Android Auto update through the dealer, but if he wants the video in motion unlock, that will have to come from MVI.

Yeah that I understood, just hoping to have Android Auto already installed so I don't have to schedule another trip back to the dealer yet again since owning my 2014. I hopefully plan on getting the unlock through MVI once my tax returns come back. Will update once I take delivery of the truck.

I know you say pricing varies, but what are we talking ball park here? Like $50, $500....etc.

MVI says they are flooded, and I don't want to waste their time on pricing when it can be posted up to save everyone time.

It's in the 4th post of this thread.

For just the unlocked video motion (dvd or usb), textra read out and reply, the Nav input while in moton and welcome/greeting tones, it's $399 for a module swap.

It's $349 if you want to send your own module in.

Although this unlock uodate is available for 2014, 2015, 2016s....ANDROID AUTO IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR 2016s.

MVI can provide Android Auto for 2014, 2015s but it requires hardware replacement. That hardware will vary based on what you want. Contact Anthony for that specific pricing.

The hardware on 2014/205l15 is different. 2014/2015 have the live radio rewind feature. Something that was hardware (harddrive) driven.

2016s lost this rewind feature to make room for the Android Auto/Apple Carplay hardware.

......

Ok I think I covered eveything....

Oh....Anthony says..don't call, TEXT him.

No worries...

As for 2016 Anddoid Update...my dealer said he hasn't received the thumb drive yet.

Even though GM says it's available on March 1st, it doesn't ship out to them until March 1st. So they are expecting it some time late this week or early next.

No I never got the pic so they finally got the Android update ready

@MVI Inc,

Do you all have a video or instructions on removing the center console safely to remove our modules?

Thanks 2Speed.

My dealer hasn't gotten their thumb drive yet for the 2016 updates. As soon as I get that done at the I plan on contacting MVI to send mine in.

Sorry for the delay here guys....we have been Flooded with calls, orders and info requests. The update should be available at your dealer. IF you have a 2016 model vehicle and all you want to do is upgrade to the Android Auto WITHOUT any extra features, you should be able to set an appointment to get this done. Some dealers are not as on top of things...so you may need to wait for your particular dealer to figure things out. This WILL NOT be for the 2014-2015 models though...you have to have the upgraded hardware in your vehicle for this to work.

We do offer a couple different options to get this done...so just TEXT for info and I'll be happy to help. We will have detailed instructions on the install which comes with video links as well...it's super easy!!

Thank You Very Much 2Speed and SierraMyst for jumping in here and answering some questions!!

We do get very busy and I do prefer Text, simply because it helps not tie up the phones for quick answers. You are always welcome to call, I just like to forewarn everyone that you will likely get voicemail...simply because the phone does not stop ringing during business hours.

We were able to put together a quick demo video of what Android Auto is currently offering. Like everything else..GM will add to the user experience as they go; and those additions will be done via updates. Once you have purchased and installed the system through us...those updates can be handled with us, which should save you a ton of time and headache.

I will have a much better video put together by the end of the week...but this should give you an idea of what is now available.

Glad to know there are options to replace the slow factory nav with an updated processor and carplay! Buying trucks these days is almost like buying a computer, the technology is so integrated that even though yours still works, you feel behind the curve if you can't upgrade...

Will the google music stream or does it only want to play the songs on the device? Im assuming it streams since Pandora streams. And lastly, will this work for Galaxy S6 edge?

MVI is simply helping folks with 2014/2015s get Android Auto since it wasn't available direct from GM.

And he's providing the unlock hack for all of the 2014-2016 MY.

I'm going to say it's pretty impossible to test every phone because that is GM and Androids responsibility.

The simple fact here is that if your phone supports Android Auto, it will work in the vehicle.

If you can download, install and run Andriod Auto on your phone, it should work in the truck.

The only thing the vehicle, HMI, radio, Intellilink, Mylink, etc...does is push the Android Auto app running on your phone to the radio screen.

If Android Auto, per the play store, supports a particular feature of an app (like Google Music streaming) then yes it will work on your vehicle.

I tested with an S5...so I'm guessing the S6 will be fine.

When you say streaming...you do confuse me slightly, because in my world Streaming means wireless...which it WILL NOT do. Have to be plugged in, but if the app is there which the video does show Pandora, Slacker, amazon Music and Google Play music.

    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. Years later, your thread is still helping Silverado owners.   I bought my 2025 Silverado 1500 in January 2025, and I've had what feels like the exact same rattle since day one. After reading your findings, I believe my truck has the same issue with the cable carrier contacting the rear sliding window. To be honest, I had pretty much given up on pursuing the issue. It wasn't until I recently drove another brand's pickup that I realized just how quiet their cabin was—and how noisy mine has been all along. On my truck, the rattle happens on almost any paved road, gets even worse on rougher pavement, and I can even hear it during braking and acceleration.   I actually referenced your thread when submitting my case to GM, hoping they'll recognize this as a recurring issue instead of treating it as an isolated incident. The reason I reached out to GM first is because my dealership told me they would need to keep the truck for at least two days just to diagnose the problem. I was concerned that even after two days, they still might not be able to identify the source of the rattle before giving the truck back to me. I had also asked a few dealerships about this issue during previous service visits, but none of them seemed to know what was causing it or had a solution. That's why I decided to contact GM directly first, hoping they might already have an official repair procedure or guidance for this issue.   I also hope GM eventually comes up with an official fix for this problem. I have a feeling there are many Silverado owners experiencing the same rattle, but most either choose to live with it or simply don't know what the cause is.   Really appreciate you taking the time to document your diagnosis. Your post is still making a difference years later.
