~~ VENDOR MVI ~~ Apple CarPlay, Android Auto UPDATES

Just installed my android auto system. Much easier than I expected. One question, while in Android auto playing Spotify, why won't the steering wheel controls change the song? Also the volume steering wheel controls won't change the volume. I would think that using the steering wheel controls would be much safer than reaching to the dash to change the track. It all works as it should if I just connect the phone via Bluetooth. Any help is appreciated.

Now everything works fine..so I wonder if maybe the usb drive wasn't done indexing so it wouldn't switch between folders? Idk but now it's working as it should and that's awesome. I noticed before that sometimea depending if the USB drive is a 3.0 or a 2.0 effects it..in my experience a 2.0 has worked better in these trucks. Or maybe it's just how it's been formatted. If it's formatted as ex-fat my truck has all sorts of issues with it but formatted as NTSF it works great.

how about your steering wheel controls when inside of Android Auto ? Some are saying they work fine and others are saying don't work at all. I'm almost wondering if its a phone model thing. Android is going to be tough...seeing there are multiple different Android phones and iPhone is same across the board.

We are also on the 2nd update to the system since they launched CarPlay...which seemed to fix quite a few bugs, so hopefully they will follow on the Android side soon.

As far as I can tell I can only change the volume while in Android auto. I have a Motorola turbo 2. And yes, there has always been problems with Android systems since so are so many different systems out there. There will most likely always be too.

Am I blind but I'm not seeing an io4 --> io6 upgrade on the site anymore?

What I would really like to know is the upgrade price for a io4--->io5 (don't need nav) with carplay enabled.

Yea neither of my steering wheel controls work to change music or volume within android auto. My mic button on the steering wheel also doesn't work to talk to google. I have to touch everything on the screen for the functions to work. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7.

My steering wheel controls also do not work in Android Auto. If I hit the mute button on the steering wheel then use the volume buttons they work just fine until I stop adjusting.

In my buddies 16 my phone works with his steering controls just fine.

By the way when done I will be an upgrade from io4 to io5 with android auto on my 2015 silverado. ...no need of io6 as Google map and Google Earth are more convenient and also get update for free compare to 200$ to update map on io6 at your local dealer

Does the unlock features for the Nav/video in motion/full text function while in motion/etc...also unlock the Android Auto parked vehicle features as well.

Like on Android Auto, Google Maps let's you do a "pin drop" to navigate to your location.

Is this also enabled after the MVI unlock update?

Fyi for everyone. The Google Maps pin drop feature is not enabled after the HMI unlock. Although the unlock tricks the HMI into thinking the car is stopped and in park, but it doesn't trick AA.

So this upgrade for the '14 and' 15 comes with a HMI and the module behind the screen, right?

Here it is in action with my San disk mini 128 gb thumb drive.

FYI the left steering wheel button switches movies and the right steering wheel buttons change the volume.

Also, someone had asked, if you long press the forward and reverse buttons on the screen, it will indeed fast forward and reverse the movie.

Pretty odd on this. We have known on the older models that the voice rec button on the steering wheel controls won't activate Siri inside of CarPlay...but the other buttons appear to work. Android gets mixed feedback on whether any of the buttons work while inside of Android Auto. I was really hoping they would release a update soon to help correct that, but after getting some feedback from the 16 owners...I'm no longer holding my breath. There is something definitely different in the cluster of the 16's that's allowing the steering wheel controls to function. I'll keep playing around to see if we can crack something, but it's likely going to get pricey if we have to do cluster work..... :nonod:

    • The truck is a 1995 Chevrolet S10 Blazer, 4.3 VIN "W" engine. :cracks knuckles:   On a whim - because I needed a headache - this truck was for sale so I stopped to take a look. Doesn't run. Well, it does, but barely. Long crank, choppy idle, bad misfire(s), it REEKS of fuel. I can DO this..I'm thinking. Diamond in the rough. One owner until last year. A young guy is selling it, he bought it 6 months ago. It stranded him more than once, he's got a newborn. It was in the shop 10 days ago and he "thinks" they said it needs a new fuel injection system. He can't put any more money into it, needs it gone. I was thinking of upgrading my Macbook, which is a total want, not a need. For less than the price of a new laptop I can have fun for months tinkering on this truck and enjoying it. I'm taking this truck home. The guy was beyond thrilled, his wife was there, she thanked me profusely, I could tell they were hurting. They seemed like good people in a bind.   Some parts, a wash, maybe a set of tires, and I can have a few months of fun and then turn it for beer money (or the next project).   Sure enough, there's a work order from a shop last week in the INCHES of paperwork on this truck dating back to when the first owner bought it. They put a new distributor in it, fuel injection work describes basically opening the plenum and putting it back together. He said he couldn't afford any more work so he had them button it up and that's when he put it up for sale.   I'm not well versed in 4.3. I did discover 1995 uses the 1992-1995 SCPI "Spider" injector which is riddled with issues from splitting lines, clogged or cracked poppet valves and plastic spider legs that crumble over time. Cool. I'll just order me a ne---. Oh, the auto parts store doesn't have it? Rock Auto doesn't have it. eBay? $$$$$$ for used. These are UNAVAILABLE period end of story unless you know "a guy" who's still got one in a box somewhere.   Can't upgrade to the '96-'04 injector, it's a different plenum, wiring/pinout and sensor config.   There are a few kinda "know a guy" -guy rebuild services for these injectors out there for about $350. Okay, Okay... I'd like to know if anyone has used them? Anyone got a lead on these crappy 92-95 spiders?   I also don't want to send MY spider to Narnia and back without knowing if that's truly the problem. I guess I'll need to pull apart the plenum and do some digging.   I was also thrown for a loop. This 1995 model year truck has an OBD-II connector. The interface is decidedly not OBD-II. I can read and reset trouble codes and view live data, but there's not a lot of data. Like misfire count and on what cylinder, that's not there. It's OBD-1.5.   Nothing is ever easy. Now it makes sense why this guy wanted to disappear this thing for cheap. I'm guessing the shop told him the injector is toast, the part is unobtainable and they're not going to sort sending the thing to a rando offering rebuild service on craigslist, and the kid likely can't be without a working car for 3 weeks even if they'd facilitate that.   Experience with these early SCPI's? Stories? Things to check? Sympathy? (..Nah...)   This can sit until I sort it. But I haven't had a problem with a vehicle I couldn't easily solve in a long time.
    • I have four that read by the dash 8 to 10% better than miles/pump calculations and I have one that is spot on.
    • The average lifespan of automobiles on the road is increasing - here's why
    • Typically it is the Torque Converter, I have a 2.7L Trail Boss and between 25-65 MPH at 1300-1500 rpms under light throttle it has a shudder which I almost consider and bobble or a gargle sound. They replaced my TC but it did not help any, others say it has fixed their issues. It has been back twice now with no fix after.
    • Still $3.01 with even more places at this price
