Little annoying things about your truck

Recommended Posts

It's been a while since this topic was covered but there are new owners and others who have had their trucks long enough and have found those little things about their trucks that are irritating. Mine are:

No fan control using windshield defrost, instead it runs full bore.

Bottom cushion power front drivers seat does not go low enough, constant and annoying "clam shell" sensation.

HVAC indicator lights too dim.

Slow infotainment.

Great truck otherwise.

Maybe it's just my truck but when I adjust the temp on the climate control, if the system was off, I would've assumed that any temp change would trigger the system to turn on. Instead I set the temp then hit the AC on button. Not a deal break but definitely a first world problem...

I don't have any of these issues with my truck.

2014 Silverado.

Radio: bad reception; weird anomalies (like the other day my radio "un-muted" by itself at full volume...had to turn truck off to reset it); radio doesn't actually turn "off", just "mute"; if i press power/mute and return radio screen to the clock, then turn the truck off, it NEVER starts on the clock screen. Essentially, I cannot ever turn it "off", just "mute". This is not like any other GM or other car I've owned - I've driven other GM cars in my travels and they work fine including reception...so why is the truck so bad?

It seems like every day now there is some new "different" thing that my truck is doing...anomaly...quirk...intermittent weirdness...I don't know what to call it. Like when it idles perfect and then you pull up to a traffic light and the trans shifts rough and then you get a rough idle "miss" and then everything runs great again. weird.

So far I have not had any issues with my 14 Sierra SLE.

The only thing that pisses me off about this frigging truck is that I need a step stool to check my oil!

I thought it was just me but my truck does the same thing, almost like it is a miss or it needs shimmed or something. I don't like the reflection of my controls reflecting off the back glass at night, very annoying. I do love the looks, power of the 5.3, and the decent (but not great) gas mileage.

The radio can be turned completely off by holding down the power button for a few seconds. But I agree that the radio does weird things at times.

The transmission NEVER shifts when you expect it and presents hard shifts up and down at times.

The automatic headlights come on and off if you just pass under a tree. This impacts the dash dimming as well.

The OEM headlights do not provide enough illumination (fixed with a TRS kit).

Rattle under the dash that the dealer hasn't found yet.

The rear passenger seatbelt squeaks on something only when a passenger is in it. I haven't found out exactly what it's rubbing yet.

The backup camera provides enough resolution, but its light sensitivity combined with the automatic headlights makes it unusable when the sun is low.

Otherwise, I've been mostly satisfied with my truck. I'm not sure I would buy it again, though. I thought the GM truck team would do a better job with interior rattles and drive-train performance. Plenty of power, but the transmission is just plain goofy. My dad has a 2016 Z06 Stingray with the 8-speed and you can't tell it shifts without looking at the tach. Granted, it weighs half of what my truck weighs.

Truck is perfect, so I would have to say the truck forums; more specifically all the little new threads being made for teeny tiny non-issues. There is an entire host of other annoyances on the forums but this is just the small one...

If I were to nit pick though, I am a little annoyed the 5.3 isn't pumping out 530+ NA, I mean if a 2.0 four cylinder can do 200 hp, why can't my truck do the same displacement per hp? Also a little annoyed there is no locking front diff, and only 7 speakers? A two seat car can have 18, I expect at least 20 with this much space. Guess I have more little annoyances than I thought, let's not get on the annoying paltry 22 mpg hwy or anemic sub 3k payload and 20k towing, shesh!

My radio appears to turn off when you hold the power button down for a few seconds, but when i turn the truck off and on again, it does not STAY off. The truck will initiate with the splash screens to the myelin screen and then it goes to the radio in "mute" mode. That is now what I call OFF.

Good points...to make mine run smooth, I have to think about driving too much (coordinate with the shifts). in other vehicles, I just drive...
