2016 GMC vs Chevrolet

I realize they share powertrains and it appears to me differences are solely exterior sheetmetal/lights. Is there any interior differences? They seem to be the same. Yes, no?

 

Any other differences that I should be aware of would be appreciated by this GM truck potential buyer. I'm thinking it is purely styling and not much else.

 

Just trying to be able to make an educated decision between the two. I don't want to jump one way only to find out there was something missing or different that the other has that I would have changed my decision. Kind of wordy but I hope you get my drift.....

Go to each website and read up on what each has to offer. There is no major differences between the two trucks but each comes with different/more options depending on trim.

the GMC is presented as a higher level but they really are the same Denali vs High Country, LTZ vs SLT. It really comes down to outside appearance and if you want your dash lights to be red or blue/green haha

Thanks guys. I guess my assumption was right. So the Chevy has blue lights and the GMC has red. Didn't know that....

I like the deployable side steps the GMC has. I guess Chevrolet is getting them next year. Guess I'll have to spend some time at the dealers.

One thing that kind of baffles me is so few dealers order tow mirrors. Dumb if you ask me.

It all depends on what options you want. GMC offers things in their lower tiered trim levels that you would have to go to a higher trim level in the Chevy to get, i.e. leather dash with stitching is on my SLE but from what I've read you have to go to the LTZ on a Chevy to get. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My salesmen told me the difference between a GMC and Chevy other then the obvious is that to build a GMC you must have 5 years experience building Chevy's first. It is where the "Professional Grade" comes from. But could be him blowing smoke up my ass.

IMO, I have never liked the larger broad Chevy fenders since the GMT-900 to current design GMC's is far more subtle and clean. I am a fan of GMC grill design in general over Chevy, but my 2016 Denali grill is going as soon as there is a better option.

 

GMC Denali offers, which not currently available Chevy high country

• MRC (Magnetic Ride Control)
• Larger digital instrument cluster, w/ themes
• 2 interior color options, high country only has saddle brown, yuk
• Denali logo in bed, vs GMC or Bowtie
• Fender lip protectors (all/most GMC models)
• brushed aluminum accents

The Denali is a tier above Chevy's high country

 

as you stated red vs blue interior night lights, that does get overlooked by most, the tri mode steps are a option on high country.

just found out they are perfect seat when in the rear position when cleaning door panels.

He's blowing a lot of smoke. They are built on the same assembly line by the same people.

Clearly the salesman has never been in an assembly plant to see how it's done.

GMC is just better looking, and also important to me and others who drive gravel roads, is that GMC has the factory plastic wheel/fender rock chip protectors.

GMC has the brushed aluminum accents on the dash where the chebby's have a grey pastic.

Worked in the Oshawa truck assembly plant for 24 years.

 

They are the same truck. Built by the same people, on the same line.

Now they are made in Mexico, instead of Canada. (also Pontiac E and Ft Wayne)

 

Until GMT900 the only difference was grill/lights and stickers.

They changed the hoods and front fenders a bit at that point to get more market differentiation.

 

Saw a lot of improvements in build process over the years, as well as quality feedback systems.

 

Well designed and well made. GMC is not 'better' in any respect, unless you prefer the GMC grill and red interior lighting.

 

Chassis/drivetrain is built as an assembly and mated with trimmed cab & box. Up to this point you'd have to look at the steering wheel emblem to see a difference. Front fenders/hood/rad support/grill and wheels are added at the end.

 

Been retired for a few years, but interior trim is identical other than trim levels, which are identical between both brands.

Yeah thats real nice. The LTs and over get the enhanced DIC. Since I have an LS I have to make do with a little DIC.
