Best Vent Visors / Wind Deflectors

Recommended Posts

Looking to see what everyone thinks about their vent visors / wind deflectors.

Which ones are you running, stick on? In channel? and what Brand is best?

Read the issue with the in channel, the auto roll down option, thats really turning me off even though i do like the look a lot better!

What are your thoughts on what you have? Which would you recommend?

Any Info is helpful!

Cheers!

I had AVS in channel on mine and loved them. Never had a issue with the auto-up feature either. I had an accident and the body shop replaced them with GM's in channel ones and they are garbage. They move inside the channel and auto-up isn't working. It gets kicked down every time and they're scratching the tops of the windows. After 4 trips to the dealer their finally putting AVS back in. The part number is 194528 for the AVS.

I have weather tech in mine and I love them. At first I had trouble with the auto up feature because I installed them during winter. After it warmed up I guess they settled in just right with the window up and they work great now.

I have Weathertech in-channels and never had a problem with them. I would recommend in-channels because the adhesive tape on the stick on type will eventually get old and no stick anymore. Had AVS stick ons on my '98 and the one on the driver side started to unstick and you'd hear it slapping the door. I know some people have had problems with in-channels messing with the auto up feature of the driver window, but it's not a huge deal to me since I tend to just hold the button until it goes all the way up. But the few times I used the auto up there wasn't a problem.

I am suprised by this, Lund\AVS are the ones making them for GM.

Went with the in channel Weathertech when I got them for my '13 Silverado. Held up so well, was able to sell them 3 years later when my lease was up to someone else.

I don't know what the deal is. The plastic that's inside the channel is thicker than the AVS I had. I'm assuming that is why. And it only affects the front windows. The rear are fine. The go up with a good solid thud as they should. But the front start wine, scratching/crimping noise. Maybe I had a bad experience with them but I wil be glad to have my AVS back.

Not for the 2014+ body style. Those are made by EGR. I bought those (not through the stealership!) and so far have been happy with them. The rears for the crew have adhesive tape. For a few days they didn't want to stick correctly but after they warmed up they seem to have settled in. Other than that I have not problems with the windows closing (the EGR instructions that come with the kits the dealers get tell you how to reprogram the auto-close feature to avoid problems).

The newer WeatherTechs use a clip in the channel to hold the rears in place. When I looked at videos on their site I wasn't sure I wanted the clip in my weatherstripping but at least with the clip you shouldn't have the trouble that some designs have with the rear ones falling out.

Actually, we both are right. Lund/AVS are making the stick ons and EGR are making the in channels.

Unless WeatherTech changed something on the 14+s, the rears on my 09 used a clip and tape.

If you're talking about in-channels, the Weathertechs for my '14 Double Cab doesn't use tape at all for neither the fronts or rears. The rears use metal clips that go into the channel while the fronts don't use anything to aid other than the shape. The fronts you just bend to put in the channel and then they stay by themselves. It does say though that you have to keep the windows up for 12 hours to help them seat, especially for the fronts.

I got the GM (Lund) for both of our trucks from the dealer. They are in channel and use tape. So far so good. Our dealer had them in stock so we got two sets along with floor mats before we left.

I put AVS in-channel ones in my 2016 Crew and have had nothing but problems. The tape they use does not stick. If you had your window cracked and shut the door...they would fall right out. I took all the garbage tape off and used the clear Gorilla tape...seems to be holding up much better. And before you say I didn't install right...I've had these in all my trucks (including the wife's) over the years and never had problems like I did on these. One problem actually might be the liner on the truck that these adhere to...very loose and moves around.

If/when these go flying off the truck...I will not be buying the AVS ones again to replace!

Sort of -- Lund only supplies the Chrome ones to GM (both stick-on and in-channel). EGR supplies all the Smoke/Matte ones no matter if they are in-channel or stick on:

If you bought GM ones for the 2014+ trucks then you have EGR not Lund/AVS (see the above GM Accessories link where it states they are supplied and warrantied by EGR).

I'm not trying to be a pain -- I just want everybody to know which company the GM ones come from so they can decide which company they like better when we discuss them.

Well the package said Lund is why I said that.

My AVS inchannel ones interfere with the auto up on my drivers window. Also, today on my way home with the windows down, I get home and go to roll up the rear window and its hitting the rain guard because it is bowed in. They're only 3 weeks old. I called Lund and they are sending me another set.... The rears almost touch the glass on the very back.

First set I got at Advanced was all scratched to hell. Horrible shape. Went back up to look at 2nd set. Scratched and they were the older style that only had a few tabs with the tape, not the whole length. Another set, another store also, the third set was scratched up. but not as bad as the first two. This is the last try before I go back to Weathertech like I had on my old truck.

I remember my old sets being covered in a plastic film to prevent any scratches but it seems like they did away with that. Not good.
