That hood is tight. I wonder if the scoop is functional?

The scoop is functional. A new duramax engine is coming. Makes me want to change over to the Silverado... :smoker:

Still not quite a big fan of the hood scoop design, but it seems to flow better on the Silverado than the one we've seen on the Denali. Seeing it in person and on a different GMC trim may make a difference.

I wonder if the gas trucks will have the same hoods.....

Good question, and if so will they also be functional?

They keep making the hoods taller and taller so that those of us who actually use these pickups in tight places, worksites, etc have a more difficult time. My 2015 is bad enough. Long for my old '98 2500 when it comes to front end functionality. This new one... will not be visiting the dealer anytime in the near future.

My guess is there will be cameras just like the new Superduty to aid in those tight places

Probably my biggest complaint coming from a 2002 duramax to a 2016 is visibility in tight places, mainly seeing over the hood. I'm getting use to it and the sensors help when parking close to something like in a tight garage but I still wish they would drift towards smaller grilles not larger. Many of us use these trucks for daily drivers and I fell like in some aspects the 2002 made a better DD as the new trucks seem like they are getting carried away in size and trying to make them into medium duty trucks...

Maybe its been too long since my 2002 HD but I don't recall that truck being any easier to drive or see out of than my 2015 3500. Even then the HD's had a larger and talller hood than the 1500's...it would be interesting to see some actual measurements comparing the two. I believe in 2003 the hood was actually shared with the 1500 and was a bit lower than the 01's and 02's. In my opinion the 01's and 2's were the best looking truck of that vintage.

If anything they seem the same to me because in the newer trucks the seats have you sitting up higher. The 900's were like this for sure. The K2's I sat in felt like my head was almost rubbing on the headliner.

These new hoods are just awesome, especially if they're functional. It's right in line with the hood I want to get for my 2015 2500
