Most car sales guys know less than you do...they just came over from the local Kia dealer...or Ford dealer...or others. I just got a 1500 Sierra coming from a Ford F150 and the keypad on Fords will be one thing i truly miss.

For a 2016, yes. But the OP has a 2014. Only 6 months was included until 2016. 2014 & 2015 got the 100k warranty with 6 months OnStar. 2016s get 5 years of OnStar with 60k warranty.

OnStar is doing a 3 year basic onstar w/ remote app for 3 years for free, just click the button and ask for it! works on the older models that have available.

. Glad my son is fine but I think I may need to pursue this and possibly make onstar pay for the glass. Or at least get this fixed where it doesn't happen to someone else. What are your opinions I will fill in more info as this happens, or give more info as I have the chance.

Man up and stop blaming others for your wife's mistake. Ask your wife why she knowing endanger your son's life? She is to blame 100%, not Onstar.

Let us know how this pans out. I don't think you have a leg to stand on since you don't have an active subscription and you were responsible for locking your keys in the car. If anyone is to blame perhaps emergency responders who sounded hap hazzard about responding. I know if the police request action by OnStar, OnStar will comply. Lesson lerned, you should of worked with OnStar to get your free phone app to work with your truck. Glad you child is ok.

I have purchased a window, what sucks though is as soon as I ordered it got pushed out another 4-5 days dues to stock or something. I am going to pursue the guy that would not unlock it getting a bit of a change of mind to help a future someone else out, I appreciate the kind words from everyone. I mainly plan on using the window thing to just get something done about the endangerment of a child issue.

Why would you blame the emergency responders for the actions of his wife? If anything, you better be treating the police very nicely as she could be facing child endangerment charges before this is all over.

Umm because the wife called the sherrifs dept and their response was "there is nothing they could do" make sense?

Actually, had something happened to the child, and depending on the jurisdiction, OnStar could have been charged under "duty to rescue" laws. For example in Quebec, you are required to assist anyone in peril unless it endangers your own life or the life of others.

As far as OnStar not being able to assist, even without a plan, they have a legal duty as a cell provider (which OnStar is) to assist anyone in peril. That is the law (but not what OnStar will ever admit to as it defeats the sales pitch for their "Safety Plan").

This (mostly). Pretty sure she didn't knowingly endanger her kid, but onstar has no liability to pay for your window when she locked the kid in there. This country is full of people who place blame and are sue happy not wanting to own up to their own mistakes. Chalk it up as to a lesson learned and reap information others have given (the app, which window to break, ect).

A little off topic but 15s come with the 5 year basic plan and remotelink. Was it ever explained why the cops or onstar wouldn't do anything?

I don't know how this scenerio got morphed into child endangerment, based on the OPs input, the wife remote started the truck and was in the process of putting the child in a car seat in the back seat of the truck. While doing that, the wife placed her purse containing the truck keys on the seat next to the child seat. Upon successful completion of situating the child, the wife closes the back door, forgetting to grab her purse and proceeds to the driver seat to leave only to find somehow after placing the child in the backseat and getting in the truck herself, the doors are all now locked?

This hardly sounds like the acts of a malicious parent. It wasnt as if she left the truck running and got out with the child in the back to run into a 7-11 or supermarket. Scenerios happen like this all the time. Substitute the child for groceries. Maybe how the doors got locked in that short instance is an eyebrow raiser, but i dont see this as a gross act of bad parenting. As i said earlier, why first respinders didn't respond is more of a question as to why the OnStar operator refused to unlock the door. Think of this, how would the operator verify this was an emergency? If all it took was for someone to call and claim a child was stuck in the car, a lot of people would cancel subscription to OnStar and use the stuck child issue or any other emergency to get a free unlock and not have to pay the $24.99/mo fee. If the police would of responded, dispatch would call OnStar and request an Emergency unlock.

Well this is a very sad world we live in and i appreciate the people who read the original post before posting, I have the 3 year basic plan on my truck.... I have it activated, actually called to make sure it was active about 2 weeks ago, same with my 13 Cruze. I had tried to use the Remote link app to no avail, said it was unsuccessful every time I tried it. I wasn't really interested in it because I could just call onstar and have them unlock it without any problem.

To the blatant idiot who said my wife would be in trouble for child endangerment, you are a very ignorant person. This wasn't a who is at fault post I was actually just trying to get onstar to fix the employees understanding of unlocking a car for the fact that my child was in it.

I'm not going to spend time replying to all the ignorance here, but I will do as I please with this. Everyone have a good day

The dispatcher for 911 transferred my wife to the local PD and they said they did not unlock cars anymore, she told them there was a child in the car and she told her to call a local locksmith, by the way the only local locksmith is 45 minutes away.

I called a good friend later who is a off duty officer in my town and he explained their insurance wouldn't allow them to unlock due to lawsuits over scratching tint.

The first onstar rep said he couldn't because I was on the basic plan.
