I bought a bunch of PF63s before the big change in Delco filters to pf48-e and 63-e and I have one left. Just wanted to know what you guys are using now ?

Thanks

Matt

The last I knew, Purolator was bad and the better Fram were good. I run Wix myself.

From other forums I read, Fram is considered a very poorly/cheaply constructed oil filter. I generally use MobilOne oil filters now.

The Frams were a cheap filter at one point, but they were highly regarded on bob is the oil guy in the last couple years...surpassing the once gold standard Purolator. This happened around 2012, as I was a Purolator guy until I was reading about holes in their media after buying this truck...I still have a couple on the shelf for this truck because it's not worth risking.

AC Delco UPF48R or Mobil 1. BTW, no benefit for running a PF63 on a truck that calls for a PF48 other than placebo effect...

M1, Fram Ultra, Wix/Napa, Amsoil. All great filters.

I run the AC pf 63 on my 6.0 it's cheap. Run the pf 48 on my uncle's Silverado because that's what was on it. Wouldn't there be more filter media in the pf63??

Filter media real estate is one thing, how effective it is on a micron level combined with effective flow rate is another. Larger size of a filter is not a measure of better. It sounds good from a simplistic level, but there is more to the story. And the filter media itself has a determination on what it can catch and hold effectively. Synthetic fiber media or glass media is vastly better than cellulosic paper media in terms of both the micron effectiveness and the ability to hold larger amounts of particulates and still flow nicely.

The Napa Platinum, Wix XP, Amsoil, Fram Ultra, are all pure synthetic fiber or glass media. M1 is a combo of synthetic fiber and cellulosic. The AC Delco line is cellulosic paper.
