Service department - trying to send me back to where i purchased

Has anyone ever had a dealership tell you to take it to where you bought it, and its over a hour away???

so i moved about a year ago and ive been getting my oil still done where i bought the truck because im sometimes in town and want to maintain my service warranty (dealership specific on batteries , brakes and tires for life, parts only)

my 60km warranty is almost up in 1500km so i took it to the dealer literally 2 blocks from my new house.

last night i got service reverse cam while in drive (they are calling in a 3rd party electronic repair to service it), i have some of the frame coating coming off in the front end (very little but hell its under warranty so do it), and i have intermittent slow start issues in summer with a gas smell...this it the one im the most concerned about.

So i took it in to (Dealer name removed, will see how it pans out) today who even has a truck specific service department and a separate truck sales and service lot and they started telling me to go to where i bought it, i said no im here i live here so whats the problem??

the guy reluctantly booked it in for wednesday this week to have everything done and said he doesnt think they have time to do the frame coating and said to go to where i got it.

then he calls me back about 10 min after i leave and says you know the dealer i bought it from can get me a rental car...blah blah blah and all that...and if i have any add on undercoating done by the dealer they need to remove it before this dealer will touch it (theres nothing aftermarket on the truck other than spray in liner, and a trifold cover.)

WTF is going on here???

there is another GM dealer in town but its at the complete other end and i had a service issue with them about 10 years ago so i just really didnt want to go back there..but man now i just dont know what to do...

service is really in the crapper...

If you spoke with a service rep, then go to the service manager. Let him know how his service rep treated you. If that doesnt get the job done for ya, then head to the general manager and then I guess the owner after that.

^ That or just cut to the chase and contact GM customer service. I don't see this working out well. If the service dept is forced to do work they don't want to perform, I wouldn't trust the work. If it were me, report the issue to GZm and take the truck across town to the other dealer. 10 years is a longtime, maybe they improved in that time.

i just spoke with my regular dealership and they said sure they will do the work (for the last 10 yrs all my vehicles have come from them, great dealership but man its just not close)

so ide be out a truck for a day, no way will they shuttle me home at this distance or possibly end up with a loner i dont know..but then blow what...50-60 bucks on gas and waste a day to drop it off and another to pick it up....such a pain... its one thing to go in for a oil change and be in and out within a hour while im in town.

I do have some strings i can pull to have the general manager lean on the service department but service is just like a restaurant, dont piss off the cook staff.

If you have a great relationship with the dealer an hour away - take it there. I sure wouldn't want anyone working on my truck that doesn't want the work.

well i decided to pull some strings, a friend of a friend is the general manager and he wasnt happy to hear they are trying to turn warranty service away. apparently he oversees the service department too.
hes off today but is making calls and dealing with it.

its just bad business to send customers to a competitor.

GM Corp is always good start. F these ass hats that work in service

I would go somewhere else. They have already asked you to leave. If they do take your truck in because you "pulled some strings" do you think you will be happy with the work they did? I would guess no.

wow what a story, glad its not me, i bought my truck at a dealer across town, they had "the" truck I wanted and a friend of a friend was a manager so some extra help, with that said a gmc dealer is 3/4 mile down the road from my work, very hard to argue with that, the service has been amazing and now they are helping me on a buy back, this is the way it should be, they have done everything except oil changes I go back the the org dealer for that so I can catch up with the guy I have become friends with since the purchase.

This happened to me also and I was threatened to be beat up. Needless to say I got a bunch of free stuff out of the dealership and Corporate..........

im 50-50 on it.

i mean the "service backup camera" is being done by a 3rd party that the dealership hires so im not really worried there...the camera works fine as far as i can tell, i just got that msg on my screen and it went black and showed the gridlines while i was in drive (i took a pic of it)

the long crank and gas smell is intermitant, i want it on record before warranty is up, i can almost guarentee that they dont find anything. its starting sometimes the way your truck would in extreme cold winter days (im in canada..so -20 or colder it has a long crank which apparently is the fuel lines building up extra pressure in the cold...i read that on here somewhere a year ago.

the frame rust and peeling well, really if they mess that up then GM Canada will get a call...

was this in Canada by any chance? funny because the guy when he called me said he isnt trying to fight me about this and it really seemed more like he wanted to throw down.

I would suggest getting the intermittent long crank/fuel smell on record at a dealership that wants your business, not one that doesn't. If they find nothing and you go back at a later date why do you think they will be willing to offer a goodwill repair out of warranty when they don't want to work on your truck when you still have warranty?

In regard to the rust. If its from road salt the rust won't stop. They may slow it down some with new coating but rust is difficult to stop.

Is your back up camera factory? If it is the dealer should be able to fix it not a 3rd party. Another sign not to take your truck back to them.

it is factory, i even asked my usual dealership if they call in a 3rd party and they do as well.

so i decided to cancel and go to my regular dealership. they also have the 3rd party electronic repair company booked to check the camera. both dealers use York Electric, maybe GM Canada has a contract with them i dont know.
