Thoughts on a Redline Concept clone?

Recommended Posts

As soon as I finish my work overseas and move back to the US, I'll be looking to buy / order a new Silverado. The 2016 Midnight Edition had originally caught my eye, but over time I've considered other colors, and lately I've been thinking that to be a little unique, I might try to make a Silverado Redline clone.

I would start with an LTZ Z71 in Silver Ice Metallic, then I would do the following:

What do you guys think? Interesting or scrap the idea and just grab a Midnight?

If anyone hasn't seen the Redline, here's a photo:

If it's what you want, then do it. Deanjo doesn't like it, I am not fond of it either, but our opinions do not count. Personally, I like the chrome on the trucks. That is why I bought an LTZ with all the chrome. Others hate the chrome and black everything out or paint everything the same color as the body. The only person you need to make happy is yourself and the wife if you have one.

I had never seen one before. I like it. Silver with black looks good and the red accents look ok to me. No red headlights please if that was even a thought.

If you like it, then do it.

I like those step bars better than the rectangular ones the SLT trucks get.

Like stated above.. you buy what you want. My opinion it's different. Never seen one before thanks for sharing.

Ya not a fan of that colour with black trim and red highlights. To me it would look infiniately better with just chrome trim (the murdered out look has pretty much died out around here as well). These "fad" looks come and go and if hung on too long make it harder to resell the vehicle. Classic looks always sell. But I'm not buying the truck so I agree to go with whatever floats his boat.

I'd go for it. Everybody does the black truck with black everything, its already over played to the point that the OEM's are making them on the assembly line. Red on the wheels would actually be interesting, especially if you went with that wheel and did the inside of the spoke in red and black the rest.

Agreed here, but being an owner of an all black 2016 midnight edition...it sure does put a smile on your face coming out to it every morning.

Why not do your own redline concept on a midnight edition instead?

The z71 badges are already red...maybe add some red calipers, red rally stripes, and red tow hooks and have your own black with red accents?

Could even get black tires with a red stripe.

You could even wrap the mirrors in red/make the chevy bowties red? Just throwing out ideas.

Now you have me wanting to do this...except I'd like mine Maroon & Black... Go Aggies :driving:

Though it's not my cup-o-tea, it's not bad. It's your money, if you like it, go for it! Like muddkatt mentioned, I also like the chrome accents against the darker colors, one of the things that attracted me to my truck.

Thanks for the opinions (both for and against) guys. Obviously if I really want it I'll get it, but it's interesting to hear your thoughts and ideas.

I feel you on that - I tend to think of the LTZ / HC chrome as refined or fancy, while black trim or monochromatic comes across as more sporty.

I don't judge the guys with red headlights, but it's not for me. I'm on the fence about the red accents but I do like the two-tone black on silver.

They may be the standard GM "off road assist step" - P/N 23194635 for crew cab.

Regarding the fads / resale, I completely agree. That's why I would wrap it so if I wanted to sell (or just didn't like it myself), I could take it off and I still have a silver truck. I think the Midnight will be fine resale-wise because black will always be classic, even if the murdered out look isn't as hot as it was 5 years ago.

The red what I'm least likely to do, except down at the tow hooks, but you make a good point on the wheels. My beef with those wheels is the lack of radial symmetry.

Yeah I saw your comment about your truck in codman232's thread; your comment sent me on a search for info on the kicker sub haha.

I may try to look for examples of something similar to your idea. I would go with a dark maroon burgundy too, even though for my school I should use gold!

Thanks for the feedback - chrome does look good against dark colors. I would like it even more if it were a brushed aluminum trim instead of chrome.... maybe that's an idea.

If you don't have Bose, you can get the sub/amp kicker - if you do have Bose, you can only get the sub kicker.

I highly recommend having the dealer include this in your package for your vehicle! I'm picking up my upgraded kicker this Saturday.

Well I've only blacked out the Red Z's on the Z71 Badges...maybe I will end up going maroon in the long run.

That's what I found when looking into it - thanks for the confirmation regarding Bose / non-Bose. My only hesitation is that it precludes the use of something like this: http://www.tuffyproducts.com/Images/product/medium/307-01_ANM.gif. I could still get a standard storage tray / Duha and cut to fit, but it would not be optimal.

i would skip over the red accents, the red looks really tacky

Thanks - what do you think of the matte charcoal on silver?
