My part # is 84224694, sorry I didnt see it before on the invioce. Hopefully this is the new box, I have put my leveling kit, install on the back burner till I see if this box fixes the issue, so far so good, 2400miles.

I have the same issue with mine, except I have purchased one out of my own pocket because my truck is lifted.

Dude, did they tell you it was because of your lift?? Thats chicken poop, did you go to war with them?

That is the same part # I ordered....whew... I am hoping this really does fix the issue. To remedy the play a bit further, I ordered a pitman and idler support kit from Cognito. Glad your steering is working good so far

Dude, did they tell you it was because of your lift?? Thats chicken poop, did you go to war with them?

I should use the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act but I do not have time to haggle with them. At least this part is considered an "over the counter" part, so if it fails it is under warranty no matter what aftermarket parts the vehicle has installed. Edited by XU_Design

What size is your lift?

 

I have been working with GM Corp. and starting to get a resolution after they told me to remove the leveling kit that was installed by the dealer I purchased it from. If you have the time to work with them, I would since this issue is a hit or miss on getting resolved.

 

Now when it comes to the lift, they told me it was the cause and to make sure it wasn't they told me to remove it by a dealer and have a dealer test drive it and confirm that its still having the issue. As you can guess it still is. I will be fighting this all the way up to the top if needed since clearly other owners are having the same issue with no lift or level.

 

From what I have gathered from legal sources that have been to trial with dealers and auto corps before, they will not make a recall until something fatal happens due to that component. This is unfortunate but seems to be that way.

 

One last thing, I have had my truck at 4 different dealers GMC and Chevy and they both say the same thing "We have never heard of this issue or the TSB's". Can some one explain that to me since this seems to be a common thing.

The fatality thing doesnt make sense, I mean my 07 was recalled, one time for wiper heaters... anyone die from wiper heaters?

 

My service writer is a great dude. He told me when I called, this was the fourth or fifth truck to come in for this problem. Then, when I came to pick it up, the head mechanic was standing there. First thing he says is, "Your the first one I've seen". Service writer looks at him with a queer face, and says, "Noo, we've done a few". Mechanic pauses, and looks puzzled,"Ohh, yeah, maybe, yeah, well your lucky, it was free". Haha

That is the same part number that was in mine. 1500 miles and no issues. Hopefully it stays that way.

I wonder if we'll ever find out what the actual "failure" is? XU, had the dealership performed any of the other TSBs or did they go directly to the box replacement?

 

Seems sort of pointless for owners (down the road) to go thru the "alphabet" when they may have been superceded by later TSBs.

They won't touch my truck. They took one look at it and said they would not even ask the regional tech.

Bummed, but I am a builder/fabricator so not afraid to do the work, just can't believe a 70k 3/4 ton truck is having such major problems. I only have 10k miles and this problem started BEFORE I lifted it.

When you do the R & R, compare the feel between the boxes. I'm wondering if there is premature wear (causing slop) between the cross shaft & power piston nut?

This may explain why the early fix included readjusting the "lash". I doubt many of us have ever had this adjusted in the past. Other components may wear out in the front end, but when they're replaced the steering is as good as new.

The dealership called me back today. They said the truck is good to go. They service writer stated they retorked the screw and tightened it back and said they used Loctite to keep the screw from backing out again,hopefully this is the last time it has to go in for the same issue
