2016 GMC Sierra Denali lacking options/equipment?

Sup everyone, just thought I would share my thoughts on my 16' Sierra Denali after 4 months of ownership. Throughout these 4 months, I've learned a lot. As many pros as there are about this truck, there is certain equipment that I still do not understand why is not available on the Denali. To name a few, and before I start, keep in mind we're talking about a $60k luxury pickup and its 2016. Its direct competitor, the F-150 has these options available. Where are the rear heated seats, or even something so simple as air vents in the 2nd row.. vehicle has forward collision warning but no automatic braking(yes I know that the brakes precharge if a collision in imminent), no adaptive cruise control, no push button start, no blind spot monitoring. Really GM? I do understand I purchased a pickup and not a Mercedes or a BMW, but the fact that it has a sensor detecting a vehicle in traffic for the forward collision warning, and they can't implement adaptive cruise is retarded, or the fact that they can precharge the brakes but not physically apply the brakes if there is no driver input. Little things that could have been done but in all honesty, I feel like it's the fact that truck owners don't want these options such as push button start, etc. To all the people who read my post, do not take it as I'm bashing on the Sierra. This is the most planted down, solid driving pickup I've ever been in, coming from a Harley Davidson F-150. It's super smooth, the Magneride suspension is beautiful, the looks are unbeatable, and get on it and you still hear a beautiful V8 up infront of you unlike an EcoBoost. Interior is truly professional grade with only top notch materials and solid build quality. The quality is here, solidity is here, and don't get me wrong, the bells and whistle are here as well but what's the reason to miss these options I mentioned is what questions me. Maybe y'all can let me know what your thoughts are on this.

Did you really join to post this? With a fine tooth comb you picked out all the problems with this generation of this truck. Lol. I'm kind of in the same boat as you are. I'm coming from audi's... So I hear you on a technology standpoint. The points that you missed in my opinion first off is the how cheap of an interior the f-150 and f-250 trucks are... Almost as much plastic as my ex-wife. Next is the ruggedness of non-aluminum bed and the structure rigidity of the truck.

I'm not sure how the adaptive braking products would work with off-road capabilities (not that every truck off-road). People choose their tools based on how they intend to use them. It annoys me to have to use a key to turn my key... Yes I'm a push button snob. However, I bought my truck to tow a trailer. The older trucks I looked at all had similar features. Dollar for dollar this truck beat the ford by 15k... I can turn that key 15,000 times plus interest.

It doesn't sound like gm puts its tech solely in its trucks as the large market base is for work essentials and not plush cruising. I'm certain, not 100% positive that some of the things you are looking for are available in the suv's which are more cruising capable and less worksite.

Sorry if I'm a bit of an ass.

Your not being an ass, you telling it how it is which I appreciate. Purchased a BMW X5 new back in 2010 so I know what true luxury is, just as you mentioned about your Audi. I didn't join to just post this, I've been part of previous forums for all my vehicles but just put this forum to the side for a while. Interior is day and night compared to the F-150, I know that. Ruggedness is obvious that the Silvy/Sierra beat the F-150 as well. Aluminum is not something to be used in a truck that is intended to handle stress and strain. And I nit-picked everything because coming from an owner, who bought, not leased a $60k pickup, you notice these little things throughout ownership. I'm not a celebrity who expects to be chauffeured around in a Rolls Royce, nor do I expect this truck to compare to anything in a true luxury segment. At the same time it is a Denali at the end of the day, and is in sort of its own class when it comes to a premium/luxury pickup.

I understand sir. I have expectations when i drop a large bill for a truck. 60k is more than my first house.

The 2nd row vents are the only thing I really miss, although the cabin ventilation really does work well.

My Dad just picked up a 2017 Ridgeline RTL-E . Holy crap that thing's loaded. The 2nd row has an actual air conditioner with separate controls from the front. The lane keep assist and adaptive cruise let it practically drive itself. The trunk in the bed is huge! EVERY truck should have this! Dual-mode tailgate, push button start, etc., etc.

However, I wouldn't buy it because of the looks. Too much like an El Camino. My wife calls it a "sissy truck" (her words, lol!) Same reason I didn't get an F-150. It's just plain ugly.

I like my truck for what it is and can live without the few little "options" it's missing.

I totally agree of everything . Just looked at a RAM Laramie $54430, Heated Rear seats etc. But look at the Fuel Mileage of the 5.7L and the Resale Value is terrible compared to the GMC and Chevy Trucks. I'll take the GM. The Trade Value is $6K less than my GMC and the Sticker is $2k more.

With any truck/car it's a give and take cant have it all.Thats with every human being nothing is perfect.Least it sounds like everyone understands that and is taking it lightly, just something to get off your chest[emoji106]

I think most people feel the same way when they buy a 60k top of the line truck and it is missing features that it's competition has.

The worst part of these forums for me are the "it's just a truck" people. While it is a truck we are not talking about bench seat long bed work trucks here.

Hopefully gm will listen and make some changes for the next model. At least getting inline with other trucks.

With anyone who mentioned that the SUV's from our beloved GM offers theses options I brought up or that I would be better off with the Tahoe of Yukon.. it is true that adaptive cruise control is available on the two full size SUV's from Chevy and GMC. They even has this available on their new Acadia Denali. The resale is definitely worth bringing up as well because I purchased my vehicle rather then lease. I know I have good residual with this truck, as it is much an investment rather then anything else, I feel more then comfortable dumping $60k into it and it was a large purchasing factor. You have to really be a neglectant owner to show wear on these 14'+ models because they have such high grade materials used, especially the leather which is and feels like true leather and not some viny feelingl crap which you can truly find in an F-150, don't know so much about the Ram but I know they drive like crap on the highway and with miles, they don't hold up so well. No car will be perfect but I thought bringing the fact up that these basic safety features are there, doing very minimal with tons of sensors and camera yet they couldn't implement the full suite of driver assist tech or convenience features.

Remember that these trucks were under development when GM was going through bankruptcy, so that might explain a little. And the new F-150s are newer than our trucks. I have a feeling that GM will add some of these features the next time around as they are mostly already available on other GM vehicles. While it may lack in some areas, I feel that it easily makes up for it with the 6.2L, 8-speed, MRC, and great looks. I'm happy.

Yes the lack of rear amenities has been discussed. And yes GM is stupid and cheap for not having vents at very least.

This is true. The refresh for 16 was pretty cool.. Even the 8 speed with the 5.3 makes it seem like a completely new motor. Also if I'm not mistaken, they refreshed the driver assistance tech such as the lane departure warning to an actual lane keep assist, where it actually pulls you back into your lane. It's called the "enhanced" driver alert package, so yeah I'm pretty sure if they could enhance it they could've taken care of the rest of options. I am a sucker for the lane keep assist, it's a nice safety feature to have.

I had a 2015 F150 Lariat 502a until a few weeks ago. It's true that the Ford is much better equipped than the Denali. My Lariat was three (!) trim levels below the top and it's better equipped than the Denali, and I loved the ecoboost.

I expect that Chevy/GMC will update the trucks soon...I hope so. They are behind for sure.
