GMC to Ram

Needed to upgrade to a 2500HD for better towing. Six different GMC and Chevy dealerships wouldn't work with me on the price, even with my military discount.

Asked my wife if she'd look at a different brand since the GMC was her truck (I drive the Chevy RCLB), she said she would look at Ram trucks but not Fords.

Found a great deal on a Ram 2500HD CC 4x4 6.4 Hemi. MSRP was $44,600 got it for $32,300 before trade in. They gave us $30,000 for my wife's 2014 GMC CC 4x2 SLT with 33,000 miles on it.

It has the Uconnect radio, Sirius XM, remote locks including tailgate, integrated brake controller, backup camera and sensors and ....rear vents :)

Please don't think I'm bashing GM, her GMC was great but we needed more payload for towing. One Chevy dealership laughed at me when I offered them $34,000 for a CC W/T 4x4 with the upgraded radio, they wouldn't go below $36,000. My wife didn't want a white truck which is what most W/T's are these days.

It has rear vents but they dont do much, I had several newer RAMs. Nothing wrong with the RAMs, never had any issues with mine except the fuel mileage but its a hemi. Sounds like you got a good deal, thats decent money for a '14 4x2 with 33K.

The Dodge is one tough truck. You did good by getting it. Very proud of your wife for insisting on no Fords!

Whats the GVRW and Tow rating on a 2500 w/ 6.4 HEMI? Cannot be that much more than a 6.2 GM I would imagine. Cummins are great but I owned a 5.7 HEMI and hated it, here is hoping the 6.4 does you better.

Never mind answered own question:

6.4L V8 HEMI A6 66RFE 3.73 12,610

6.4L V8 HEMI A6 66RFE 4.10 15,610

So with the 3.73 it only has like 1,610 lbs over a GMC 1500 with 6.2. That is not really a lot considering its a 2500. It does have a substantially larger payload at 3900lbs though for campers and gooseneck/5th wheels. The diesel numbers of course crush the gas ones.

I often wonder if my next upgrade will be a 2500 myself.

I've been shopping RAM 1500's. There are a lot of great deals on RAM's. My first truck choice was a Sierra 1500 Denali but I can't get a dealership in my area to play ball on price. Most GMC dealerships are willing to knock off a few thousand but the RAM dealerships are taking 8-10k off a similarly equipped truck.
