Going to go ahead and defend this offensive comment. Texas isn't doing the discounts cause we don't have rich bastards. They are doing it cause of the amounts we sell. You get those discounts based on how many units a dealer sells. So it's not that we Texans don't have money it's cause we are a lot smarter than these MA guys I guess. Not going to pay 10k extra when we don't need to, no matter how much money we have.

Even though I didnt make the comment I cant see how that was offensive. Many dealers say the same thing, if you dont buy it 'someone who can afford it will.'. Its a typical sales tactic to try make you turn around as you are walking out the door and say, 'hell yea I can afford it so I'll prove it and buy it.'

Never heard any dealership say that. But if you say so. And if someone is to fall for that with how expensive these trucks already are, they probably aren't smart enough to even have that kind of money.

Not bad. Thats better than the GM 6.0 gets.

Really? I get 16mpg (hand calc'd) on the highway routinely...even pulled 18mpg a couple times on my recent trip to South Dakota. Is that hand calc'd or from the meter.

How's the power compared to the 6.0l? I expect the 6.7l is better?

I left Dodge 2500s for this GM 2500hd (for just a change) because of the front suspension...after four sets of ball joints, power steering gearbox, braces, every universal joint failed by 70k, yada, yada, yada...it got old replacing those parts.

Has nothing to do with smart, has to do with people's pride. Pride can trump a lot of common sense..

Must be one dumb man saying this. Maybe that's the problem here.

The massive discounts are definitely regionally based. As colossus mentioned earlier, here in Colorado, dealers aren't knocking much of the price minus rebate. My local dealer would only come down $5K on a demo and that was with rebates...no thanks. I had to look outside the State and I found Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas are really competitve price wise if you're willing to travel. It has nothing to do with how much money people in general have where you live, because I promise you, there are some really rich Texans and Oklahomans with big oil money, just as there are some really rich old money Bostonians. It all has to do with the market and how motivated a dealer is to sell. Just look at how many trucks a Texas dealer keeps on hand, normally over 100 vs a dealer in say Connecticut which probably keep 30-40. Volume means better deals, ever wonder why the majority of trucks are owned by Texans? Travel down there and you'll see trucks easily equal cars.

That's excellent mpg. Does yours have 3:73? The last few years they have put 4:10 in them.

Hs had sone warranty work done, they did a bunch of Ford updates. It pulls like s train and has excellent highway mpg, it's a 2011.

Every dealer will throw down the big discounts at some point during the year. It depends on the income statement and remaining inventory. I bought my 10 AT SLT in November and got 13g off msrp. When i traded it in five years later for 25g, i could only manage to get them 6g off sticker on the same truck but with a 6.2L and sliding window, and the MSRP on this one is significantly higher than the last, even after factoring in inflation. Congrats on the new Ram, i hope it turns out to be a great unit.

Been driving all day, if I was rich I wouldn't care about the 10 or 12 K. If your poor you'll keep it till it would go no more. I lived in a state that was tough to make a living I moved.

3.73s, but personally I think 4.10s would help mileage in this particular case.

I have owned no less than about six Dodge 2500s over the years, put a LOT of miles on them (the last one had just shy of 300k miles). They aren't a bad truck, but they have issues...

I wish GM would put an Allison behind the gas engine, like Ford does with the Torwshift.

No haha that wasn't how I meant that comment to be interpreted - no doubt plenty of rich bastards in TX as well, but also I'd wager ALOT more trucks on the lots too - like a helluva lot more. in a smaller state/region w/ more densely packed population & a competitive pickup truck market particularly on the "loaded" models, dealers in MA seem very confident IMO that they will sell every single 1/2 ton on the lot & I know a few sales mgrs in the biz & the amount of trucks they get in that MSRP south of $50k is astounding.

Believe me I'm not happy about it, I tried my damndest to get the best deal I could even contemplated traveling way outta state or shipping a vehicle (maybe I should have) - to put it in perspective I have purchased or assisted in purchasing quite a few new vehicles lately & the results speak for themselves - without getting into the deals I had on my first TWO 2014 GM 1/2 tons (longer story) lets see how I did in comparison by vehicle:

Wife's 2015 Acura MDX AWD base model stickered for just under $47k paid $38,500 before ttl

Sister's 2016 Jeep Patriot stickered for just over $29k paid $22,800 before ttl

My 2015 GMC Sierra 4x4 6.2 SLT A/T MSRP'd for $53,900 including bed liner & clear bra on front bumper I paid $48,500 before ttl

You can see from the first 2 vehicles I drive a hard deal, but when it came to the most expensive vehicle of them all, the amount I was able to get off was less in terms of both percentage of total vehicle price & relative to the other 2. Also note the best deal was on the Jeep - as the OP has learned, there's a reason dodge & discount both begin w/ a "D" lol!

    • Blazer is all put back together. Another hard-won battle. The 4.3 is not easy to work on in such an archaic and narrow chassis originally designed for an inline 4.   My baffle issue is solved. I returned to the OG junkyard but was ready for a fight. The Blazer I had picked from was stacked on another vehicle so I had no idea how the heck I was going to get myself to working height to pull the front end apart. I had seen an S10 pickup on the ground so I was hoping the part would be the same, AND, I couldn't remember if the S10 still had a front end or not. But I didn't need to worry because it turned out to be my lucky day. The yard had just taken in a '98 Blazer, sitting right up front, on the ground, with room to work around it, and the front end hadn't been hit. The baffle and all the clips were factory perfect. I also scored another good handful of odds/ends and the whole shebang only cost me $20.   Got everything back together and it fired right off, sounds good, runs good. I've got a little coolant drip from a lower water pump bolt (D'OH!!). I did the right thing and snugged it down a little bit, and of course that didn't fix it. Yet again, I will have to soak everything in coolant to drain it down to the water pump, remove the bolt, and attempt to re-seal it. Nothing is easy on this truck. Nothing. But now all the radiator plastics are correct, snug, and fully functional. No more rubbing on the cooling fan. It runs, drives (took it for a 30 mile drive last night), no Check Engine lights, EGR is working, no vacuum leaks. We're getting closer...   The replacement wiper motor arrived yesterday. The tailgate was already disassembled and waiting, so I threw that in. It works! Sort of. Two new issues on the list. While the motor is strong enough and the gears aren't stripped, the wiper is hanging up on the bottom of the rear glass. This is the old style where the lower half folds down like a truck tailgate, and the glass swings up, and they meet in the middle when closed. The glass isn't sitting flush with the tailgate, now that I look at it. No rubber bumpers that I can see for adjusting, so I'll have to look at the hinge adjustment to see if I can correct it. Also, the washer/squirter just dumps fluid underneath the truck. The lines actually run inside on the floor so I'm guessing the tailgate is soaked at the rear trim and the line is disconnected. There's also a drain there....probably for this reason.   The leaky water pump bolt was really disappointing. JUST STOP LEAKING...OMG!!   Replacing the window motor and a rear door speaker are still to do, and then everything will work. I want this to feel like a "good" vehicle worthy of dropping $600 for new tires before I do. That means no leaking first. I hurt, and I'm kind of cranky, so I'll probably take a day of rest and do the water pump again tomorrow.
    • Just saw on Jay Leno the new Scout. That’s the way it should be done.
    • EV's have their nuances too. Best to operate the current type of lithium batteries between 20-80% charge. No real need to charge until you hit around 20%. Occasionally charge to 100% when needed. Longer term storage, battery should be 50-60%. At least those are the guidelines for our iX. We've been exceptionally good to the battery in that car...easy to do when you can charge at home like we can.   EV's lack so many of the rituals and so much of the visceral feeling ICE vehicles provide, which is why I think they're hard to accept for a lot of gearheads. They're fun in different ways, though.
    • We have got a lot of rain lately, we needed it. Storms/lightning took out a floor fan. Dirt roads badly rutted from run off.   Power here is sketchy, whole house surge protector in the service panel and all electronics plugged into surge protectors. My biggest concern is my stereo, I've been an audio nut for years. $25 k in equipment. Stereo is on it's own special surge protector.
    • Happy Birthday!  I also turned 72 this year.  In some groups I consider myself to be a young senior and in others I realize I have serious years behind me!  In June I spent a week in the hospital due to a blood clot following knee replacement surgery.  The hospital Doctor assigned to my care specialized in Geriatric medicine!  He is a great Doctor but the fact I required this type of specialized care  made me feel old!  Aging comes with new challenges but I sure appreciate getting older!  It most definitely beats the alternative!!
