GM dropping the chrome

I've owned both chromed and painted bumpers on GMC trucks. The painted bumper lasted about a year before it developed road rash. I switched back to a chromed bumper as it seems to handle anything kicked up at it better.

Chrome does not chip as easy as paint, unless of course you get a bumper with a bad chrome job that peels on its own

The '17s looks more like my old '09 AT, though it had a chrome grill. The chrome handles and mirror caps are 2 thinks I don't really care for on my '16.

My solution is very simple to the argument, but our society doesn't like simple solutions. I don't like the monolithic look on the 16/17 Chevrolet Z-71's, but some people love it. BUT GM should give the buyer a choice, they can buy a Chrome Grills and Bumper Z-71 or a Body colored Grills and Bumper Z-71. It would not cost GM any more money, some trucks would come off the line with the LT grills and Bumpers and some painted. That way everyone is happy with their 50K truck!!

Me also. Personally, I don't dig the monochromatic look. I like the look of chrome. But that's me. Give the buyers a choice.

Well honestly i likes the monochromatic look BUT, Chrome is still a good lookin.

Ford and Ram offers Choice in their trucks, basically u can get any truck any way.

The 2017 Gmc Sierra All-Terrains have no chrome on them. Color matched door handles and door moldings. Finally. Saw these on Laura gmc site.

I don't think a trim line or two constitutes a movement.

I looked at some "Elevation Editions" when I bought a new truck last week, ended up with the chrome SLE with more options tacked on, including chrome package with chrome step tube.

I'm so retro. ;)

I like chrome on forward facing surfaces (grille, bumper, mirrors) because bugs clean off of chrome easier than from paint. Also, chrome bumpers don't scratch up like painted bumpers when driven through stalks, stiff weeds/brush/brambles, etc, and the chrome finish holds up better to the bumps and scrapes that come with towing. Rings will mess up painted door handles, and any other painted surface you grab repeatedly. Chrome body-side moldings don't show minor door marks the way painted ones do.

I think the color-matched trucks look great, especially with a few well placed chrome accents, but for my use I'll take the relative durability and ease of maintaining modern chrome finishes vs the aesthetics of painted bumpers/mirrors/handles.

I was happy to have chrome on my front end, that is until I saw first hand how easily the chrome chips on these new trucks. While the painted bumper chips easily too, it's a lot easier to repair chips on a painted bumper than it is to replace chips on chrome.

Younger people like everything mono or black.

Older people like Chrome. Something for everyone.

The AT edition? The ultra cheap looking faux carbon fiber seats killed it for me.

I remember when mono just started becoming popular in the late 90's on American cars, it was always a European thing ! I had my share of them(mono) .. went back to a mix of chrome and mono!

Also the road chips really show on the all paint front ends after a few thousands miles .. chrome is a lot more durable.

When I was buying Ram trucks you could always order a Bright Appearance Package on the models that came standard with painted bumpers such as the top end Limited truck. The package would delete the painted bumpers and give you chrome ones. Therefore, choice is the buyers.
