GM dropping the chrome

Want an opinion.....here's my .02

Painted metal is cheaper to produce and painted door handles and trim are cheaper to produce than chrome plated equivalents, however the reason that car maker will use to justify their upcoming fleetwide switches to color in lieu of chrome is that it is designed to save your environment. These saviors of the planet will be quick to point out that their electrostatic dust color coat paints and water based Jello hard clear coats combined with weight reductions by use of biodegradable polymers in lieu of metals in the vehicle will conserve a kabillion gallons of fuel and save twice as many precious lives from pollution caused by their old methods requiring use of volatile aerosols and poisonous electroplating chemicals ........all the while stuffing the profits from cost savings in their pockets.

When is the last time a new car came equipped with chrome bumpers? It is inevitable that consumer trucks are next to follow; the movement has already begun. And once begun there is no turning back. Ten years from now the only chrome you will see will be on 18 wheelers and our chromed out 4x4s will look like dinosaurs. When was the last time you saw a green refrigerator, a pink toilet bowl, biscuit range or any colored appliance other than the black, white or SS that you are now forced to buy instead of the formerly standard generic colors/types produced 20 years ago.

Like chrome?.......too bad you're SOL.........if you want new you'll soon have to take what they give you.....or it's hang on to the old dinosaur.

It's only one ugly mall cruiser package that is devoid of chrome, not the entire line up.

Thankfully that mall cruiser edition will be a minority, not a majority.

IMO Chrome > painted bumpers. Not like the chrome ones can take a ton of abuse but the painted ones just do not even feel like 'bumpers' to me. I do think I prefer painted mirrors vs chrome though but with my silver truck it is kind of moot really.

The painted bumpers are not even metal are they? Again not like the 'metal' chrome bumper could not be easily damaged or messed right up either. I would swap to a paint matched or polished steel Iron Cross style bumper if they did not cost 'your first born child' up here in Canada.

I looked at the 2017 A/T's on the Laura site and noticed they didn't have running boards...

Noticed that also, also noticed they must have but the first batch of 6.2's because they have a bunch even in A/T trim

Chrome door handles, mirror caps and bumpers are still 'standard' on the SLT trim level. All Terrain overrides the chrome trim.

The painted bumpers are not even metal are they? .

Here's a hint.....a magnet sticks directly to them.

Have mine looking the same way, painted handles but black textured mirror caps so they match the whole mirror assy.

I fall into the chrome camp. It's what caught my eye when I saw the truck on the dealers lot.

What was the last car to have a metal bumper? The trucks will have plastic ones soon too. Then the chrome ones will surely be missed.

I am 40 and the only things I like chrome on my trucks are front and back bumpers, grille surround and rims and I don't mean full chrome front bumpers like on some of the '07.5-13 Silverados. Only God knows what the hell GM was thinking when they came up with that idea. Everything else I prefer color matched. For some reason, at least to me, the chrome mirror covers and door handles look out of place on the GM trucks and SUVs.

I've owned both chromed and painted bumpers on GMC trucks. The painted bumper lasted about a year before it developed road rash. I switched back to a chromed bumper as it seems to handle anything kicked up at it better.

yeah my 2016 has the chrome handles, and side mirror caps... also the door trim is chrome... . its nice.. i like it.... but i think the color match would look good too.... my bumpers are colored matched.

Which makes you wonder why Denalis are selling so well. Looks like it plowed a field of chrome daisies.

I love the grill on mine!

Lack of chrome looks great EXCEPT, if the bumpers are painted, they always rust much faster than chrome & any small stone chip is all it takes, (for those of us that live in the NE rust belt). FYI...
