Buying a New 2015 Siverado?

So a local dealer has a brand new 2015 Silverado on the lot. Crew cab. 4wd. LT w/ Z71 package. Has like 800 miles. MSRP was $49k. Dealer with incentives is at $39k. What's a good price for this truck? While its new, it's actually 2 years old.

I would think they'd take at least 15k off sticker.

That is not a great price for a 2015 with 800 miles on it. Id expect it to be around 35k....

Well first you need to find out what the 800 miles came from. Was it a demo? Was it used as a loaner? Or has someone already owned it and got rid of it for one reason or the other?

 

After you find that out and hope you're not lied to, then you can figure out price. I wouldn't mind it being a demo. Loaner I would be on the fence because if people drive a loaner like they do rentals then a lot can happen from rough driving in 800 miles. Maybe not soon but down the road and most likely after the warranties. If someone owned it before and got rid of it that quick, they either had problems or changed their mind for some reason.

I prefer the looks of the 15 to that of the 16, but I'd shoot for 32-33k on the price.

considering the last time I checked there was a $7000 incentive on 2016's without mileage - that's a poor deal.

There was a $10000 *cdn* discount on 15's last year, and with 800 miles - I'd want another 50 cents per mile, plus extended warranty, and a further $5k for it being 2 years old now.

Dealer is in a tough spot on this one. They likely wouldn't go for it because some sucker will get talked into it for 10 off.

 

If it were me - I'd look for the incentives on the 16's and pick one more to your preferred option content with only the miles for transportation.

 

Do a blue book/black book valuation on a 2015 retail value and wholesale value. to get a better idea what its worth currently.

At 800 miles I believe its considered used, and the dealer used up this value internally in this case. They need to take a loss on it.

What the guy above said blue book it and tell the dealer you will give the high value and not a penny more as that is what it is worth the second you put the key in ignition. Else tell him to give you the same ~10k on a 2016 an walk out.

Still new if it hasn't been titled yet. As in if it was used as a demo or dealership loaner. Which also means if you buy one of them the warranty doesn't start (date and mileage) until you sign the papers. You'd be surprised at some of the "new" vehicles a dealership might have. I've seen them have as old as 3 years and still less than 10 miles on it and that's from test driving.

I agree here 35000 would be top 32 would be good/fair if you really like the 15 front end style.I personally would want to pay 37,000 for a new 16,lights have better output and apple car play response is quicker,on a 14 I couldn't Bluetooth music on a 16 I can right off phone without connecting with cord.

500 miles is break in for motor.shop around to get the best deal,Good Luck.dealer needs to take some loss on it.

I got 35k for my 14 on a trade with 30500 miles on it. It was a 1LZ z71

Well you didn't say new price (assume you mean after rebates and all), you just said new. Plus nobody isn't say to pay MSRP. If you don't get a brand new truck with 1 mile on it for MSRP tand can generally get at least $5K or more off with no problem then there's no reason to say that a "new" truck with 800 miles won't get new price.

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
