2017 6.2L Arriving 2 Weeks Pre-Delivery Checks

Hey Folks,

Good news! My 2017 6.2L Midnight Edition arrives in 2-weeks. Looking forward to it.

This is probably a silly question, but is there anything that I should spotlight with the service team prior to taking delivery or anything that I should have done ASAP? I guess the first thing that I want to do is look over the frame and underpindings to see if there is any rust or areas missing wax dipping.

These are the things that I am going to try to detect to the best of my ability:

- Rust or missing wax dip on frame

- Movement in driver seat

- Any unusual behavior with the transmission (as best as I can during short test drive)

Is there anything else that I should be one the alert for? It will be under warranty obviously, but I want to go over it as best I can. As you know, you have the dealership's undivided attention prior to delivery so I want to take advantage of the opportunity.

Thanks in advance,

John

vibration at highway speeds

I've never experienced it, but I hear a lot about it, and it sounds like there is no resolve to it

I have absolutely zero vibration, rides like a cloud on the highway (until you hit a bump)

Check all your functions, A/C, heat, defrost, wipers, side mirror adjustments, all your basic checks. I am a vehicle inspector at Nissan, you would be surprised at some of the things i find that is not working after it leaves assembly. Worst thing i found was a motor mount not shot down, funniest thing i have found was black cloth front bucket seats with tan leather rear seats, it happens. Allot of times basic functions do not work, like your side mirrors. Find keys do not lock doors allot. Most people do not use their keys to lock their doors anymore. USB not working is also found sometimes as well as bluetooth. Nothing should get out with good quality control, but the average person would be surprised at the list of things that we find in inspection, sometimes 2 to 3 pages of things to be fixed.

Look at the head liner, window air leaks, look at the door panels.

My head liner has 2 scratches and a stain on it.

Turn off everything while going down the road and listen for air leaks. My driver door has one and it drive me nuts, I've got to take it in.

I have a door panel that as a plastic discoloration because there is too much pressure on the backside pulling on it, it's like it's been stretched or something.

Don't take delivery at night or in the rain!!! As well as all of the things mentioned above! I didn't pay much detailed attention to mine as it had one of those dealer paper floor mats on the passenger side. When I got home and my mom pulled that paper up the GM floor mat was not there. Had to make a trip back a few days later to get it.

mass produced will likely always have some issues. My brand new 2014 had a burn type spot on carpet and small interior trim issue from the factory. Both were fixed.

Then the brand new 2016 had bad weather strip on driver side and a small scratch near the rear ... that one could have been the dealer.

Test drive, test drive test drive! See if your dealer will give you an overnight test drive. Most will. Take her up to the limiter several times and make sure she is baby butt smooth. If not, make them fix it or skip the truck.

John since it is a special order do not let them wash the truck before you take delivery. They may put swirl marks that will be very noticeable on your black truck. My recommendation would be to take a clean, high quality microfiber towel(s) and detailing spray with you and inspect the paint throughly. On my 2015 it so happened my salesman knew it would deliver on a Friday so I told him not to let them PDI it other than do safety inspection and fuel it up. Picked it up on Saturday after looking it over as described. I have very few swirls and am very picky about my truck and only hand wash it myself using the 2 bucket method. Dry it using waffle weave towels and have waxed it 5 times in 15 months. My old 14 All Terrain was black and I waxed it 11 times in 13 months of ownership. Not easy to maintain black but good luck and enjoy your 6.2.

The option is DISO (dealer installed swirl option). Personally I wouldn't have them touch the truck with anything.

I would drive it for at least 20 minutes at all speeds and different types of roads to make sure there's nothing weird going on

Take it home for an extended test drive. Wash it and inspect at your house. Take your time. Drive it at highway speeds for a few miles.

All dealers allow overnight test drives, I drove my last GMC for 2 days, unfortunately the trans issues didn't show until 2 weeks after my check was cashed.

JEB has a good point with the extended test drive. I unfortunately did not have the luxury because my last 2 trucks were bought 5 1/2 hours away at Nyle Maxwell GMC in Round Rock. No issues until recently when the 15 developed the 8 speed shudder. Truck before that was purchased 10 hours away in Oklahoma.?

Excellent Feedback!

Thanks for the input...this makes a lot of sense. I'll request that they do NOT wash the vehicle. I'm planning on asking if I can have the truck over night. Luckily the dealership is 10 minutes from my house.

I have a 30 mile loop that includes 15 miles of twist back roads and then 15 miles of interstate driving on the way back. My plan is to do this at night so I can get a feel for the LED headlamps what it is like at highway speeds at a time of day that I don't have to sit in traffic.

John

I would not worry about any weird transmission issues until you are over the 2k mile mark. The adaptive shift tables in the transmission take anywhere from 1000-2000 miles before they are really settled in and the transmission is shifting smoothly.

Other than that give everything else the fine tooth once over. As said, try to avoid a night delivery and or a rain delivery, if you must have them wash the truck off and put it inside the service department under the service lights and as said bring a big microfiber towel and dry the truck off and then go over the paint. I wouldn't be surprised if you find at least 1-3 specks of dirt in the paint, the roof tends to be the worse area along with the hood next.

Make sure if you are getting the 6.2l engine the dealer fills the truck with premium and not regular unleaded, I dont care what anyone else tells you but the 6.2l engine doesn't like anything less than 91 octane at any time.
