Wanted input with those who went with a 5.3 over a 6.2L.

Don't know why I'm posting this besides to vent. I just recently purchased a 2016 Silverado Z71 LT 4x4. The truck is beautiful, makes good enough power for me with the 5.3L, and drives wonderfully. My main issue though, is I rushed into the purchase, and really needed a solid daily driver. Crazy enough, I didn't know this truck was available in LTZ trim with a 6.2. I purchased a completely loaded LT at 50k with all options, and basically having some regret since there is a LTZ 6.2L w/ 8 speed transmission sitting on the lot for 51k right now.

Anyone actually have the funds and means to own the 6.2L, but truly prefer the 5.3? I'm by all means not unhappy with the 5.3 at all, just an ego thing at this point.

Only one i found was with the 5.3. Plus e85 isnt a option with the 6.2 and all ibuse is e85. My truck is 14 cc high country. Pleanty of power and speed

I went with the 5.3 mainly because I didn't want all the extras that came with the SLT and only saw the 6.2 available mostly loaded. I was also debating on a HD with the diesel engine but the cost just seemed crazy for my daily driver. Maybe the next truck.

Anyway, I'm happy I don't have to run premium gas. She has plenty of getup and go from stock so I've got no regrets.

Personally, I do wish I could have gotten a 6.2. But, I do like that the 5.3 in mine is E85 and I don't have to buy premium gas even though I do fill up with mid-grade 89. Also you have to get at least an LTZ/SLT or above to get the 6.2 and I don't want all of the stuff. My LT is well optioned but not fully loaded and it has everything I want or glad I have and doesn't have anything I wouldn't want and would just be too much of a hassle. I'm ok with the 5.3 because it's plenty powerful and might even be more than I'll need (at least after I regear to get rid of the dumba** 3.08 gears).

If you paid $50K for an LT (even being fully loaded) I hope it was the Crew Cab with the 6 1/2' bed and not the Crew Cab with the short 5' bed.

Sorry...honestly, I don't think there's that big of a difference between the 5.3 and the 6.2 unless you're doing some serious hauling or towing. I got the 6.2 because, quite frankly, even though I don't tow anything yet, I always have to have the most power available....it's a problem I have! It certainly hauls, but it is also a 55K truck!

I love my 2015 LT Z71 4x4 CC with the 5.3L w/ 3.43 in the rear. 6.2s were just too expensive with their trim level. I got mine for 35,690 + TTL. I still have the window sticker and all docs, my truck's MSRP was a little more than 47k. I don't have unlimited funds, so I would've never paid over 45k for any truck. I don't regret a thing with my truck. It's got plenty of power. I've never disable V4. I don't see a need to. If you guys are paying that much and want to save, then you should definitely look for some through the dealers here in San Antonio, TX. I bought mine at Freedom Chevrolet.

Its apparent you haven't driven a 6.2, go test drive one. e85 can be added to the 6.2, but voids the warranty there are threads about it on this site, requires you add aftermarket tune plus parts.

My perspective

5.3 SAE= GAS 355HP 383TQ | (e85) 380HP 416TQ

6.2 SAE= GAS 420HP 450TQ | (e85) N/A, can be added see above^

6.2L includes:

BOSE ANC

9.76 rear end

6.2 has + 65HP 67TQ of warrantable power over the 5.3 w/ GAS the gap closes with e85, GAS only that's about the same as a camshaft and supporting mods like exhaust and CAI give or take a little or about $2,500-$5,000+ (being general here, some cams and exhaust can add serious power no doubt)

I am a Denali only person, so $2,495 for the 6.2 was a no brainer which included the Bose and larger rear, (my 8 speed was part of my Denali package) which is an up charge on other models.

Not true, I have a fully loaded LTZ z71, so trim level wasn't the limiting factor and I intentionally chose the 5.3 over the 6.2. Two reasons, one I didn't need the extra power as the 5.3 was more than fine coming from a 4.0L Tacoma. Second I bought my truck Dec 13 when gas was over $3.00 and the cost to fill up and mpgs were a consideration. The difference between 87 and 91 was almost 80 cents a gallon back then. I did get a chance to drive the 6.2 but practicality won over and I haven't regretted it since.

I noticed a few 6.2 on the lots a few months ago but they always included options like towing package, sunroof, nav, park assist and several other options I didn't want that pushed the price into the upper 50k...I was able to build a SLT which already had leather and led lights that I liked and then I added for 1500 the package with running boards, 20" polished aluminum wheels and the 7 speaker Bose with sub and I added the 6.2L engine with 8 speed tranny for another 2500....ended up with exactly what I wanted for around 54k and with incentives, rebates, GM friends and family plus work discount got down to 46.

I've had both, a 2015 LTZ 6.2 and now a 2016 5.3 all terrain. Sure I miss the power of the 6.2, BUT if I'm going to pay for premium fuel then I'd rather had another diesel. They cost about same locally and diesels are alot more for IMO. I'm perfectly satisfied with the 5.3 and don't regret my decision.

I drive both..... the 5.3 is pretty boring after driving the same config with a 6.2. I jaded the 5.3 owner by having him drive my 6.2 truck to allow his dad to repaint the bed for me at the paint shop he works at..... He doesn't look at his 5.3 the same way anymore lol. I am sure the desire for a tune, exhaust and whatever will be a lot more apparent now ha ha. They both do the job and if premium fuel is a deal breaker the 5.3 is the way to go! The 5.3 is plenty though.... I dunno..... I bought the 6.2 so I can bolt junk onto it and make it just that much more..... I don't have any desire for a performance car of any kind where I live so this fills the gap for me. If I just wanted a work truck or what have you I wouldn't really hesitate to have a 5.3 to run around with. Then again I would actually probably buy a 2.7 eco F150 instead of that lol.
