1200 Miles into a 6000+ mile cross country trip towing a TT. 6.2L with a 11,700lb. max tow pkg, TT is under 7500lbs loaded. Truck has 3690 miles on it. Headed out this morning to the Badlands, about 400 miles, 7 miles on the hwy and check engine light, traction control light and engine is running rough, like mis fires. Called on-star; on line diagnosis said environmental system issue and maybe brake issue. They dispatched a tow through GMC Road Side Service.

Limped back to the campsite, tow picked up and took to Billions GMC in Sioux City, IA for investigation. Waiting for their call. Got a loaner car.

GMC said if its a serious issue, I could get a loaner truck to continue the trip and they would deliver my truck back home in South Carolina. Sounds good and they have been helpful.

Just hopeful the dealer finds something simple as I want my truck for the remainder of the trip. In the meantime we are in a nice campground and not frustrated by the reasonable delay, just want to see it fixed right. Drinking more Monkey Shoulder Scotch tonight to bring good luck!

Anyone have a similar experience with their truck?

Well hope it is an easy and quick fix for ya. Sounds like they are wanting to take care of you properly.

Got her back today. A lifter failed and damaged a push rod. Billion GMC got new parts after speaking with GM tech support and had her put back together for pick up this afternoon. Drove it 30 miles back to the campground and all seems well. This was a big job they did in short order. I will monitor closely as I move west tomorrow, and if it holds, the Dealer and GM will get a sincere letter of thanks. Any new vehicle with such complexity can have a problem, its how the mfg'er and dealer network responds.

It seems like GM stepped up.

>>>Any new vehicle with such complexity<<<

True, but that problem was the kind of thing that could happen to any V8 from the last 75 years!

Well, I personally think the Monkey Shoulder Scotch luck angle paid off handsomely. I'm planning a trip to Colorado soon and I know I won't leave town without a handle of the Monkey Shoulder good stuff…and neither should you!

Lesson Learned!

I'm glad it worked out and your family is smiling again.

I would say Billion deserve the letter more so than GM, put them in your Rolodex.

GM Execs deserve to hear of good service by dealers who meet or exceed customer expectations.

Nice to read! You have a positive attitude and this will often be reflected in how you are treated. I agree that a note to gm and the dealership is deserved and would be appreciated.

I hate to hear that you had a lifter failure, but I'm very happy to see the service you got.

Sounds like they took care of you properly! That is goog to hear. Enjoy your trip.

I am happy to see they offered you a loaner truck to tow with in case you were stuck. I am curious how that truck would have been transferred to another dealership when you arrived home, however.
