I am in the DFW area. I took my 2012 Siverado 1500 in to National Tire and Battery for an oil change and tire rotation. (Not my first choice, but convenient location) Anyways, they would not rotate my tires, due to some cupping. I have had the tires rotated multiple times before. The truck has about 100K on it, and the tires are BFG AT's with about 30K on them.

The NTB guy said I need struts and shocks. Gave me a quote of about $1050 to do just the front 2. So I called around to two other local shops. Both were in the $850 - $900 range for all 4 tires.

The kicker, said mechanic at second opinion, said I did not need struts and shocks. He said s GM's come off the assembly line, and may not be perfectly aligned. He said I needed to "de-align" my truck. I had it aligned when I put the BFG's on it, but not since then. I was little skeptical, but after some googling, I have found that it is possible that not all the trucks are aligned at assembly.

Has anyone ever heard of "de-alignment" to off set cupping? Am I missing something? I really don't want to spend a grand on shocks and struts, but if I need them, I need them. Just trying to do all my research before i make a decision.

Note: I am a traveling sales guy. My wife drive the truck much more often than I do. She told me, it just feels normal. If normal is wrong, she is not going to know the difference. I drive it to town (10 -30 miles) a weekend, but not enough to notice anything. I also haven't felt any bumpiness, so I do think the shocks are out, but what do I know...

Any help is greatly appreciated...

And here she is...a 2012 Silverado 1500 Z71 Crew Cab LT. It's the first truck, I ever bought, that was brand new. I have added an above the rails low profile tool box, dark tint, and a spray in bed liner. Other than that, all stock for the most part...

Welcome.

Whatever was done or not done at factory concerning alignment wouldn't effect your new tires since you had it aligned upon installation. If you have 100k on original shocks/struts it's time for new ones, imho
