Nav system differences 2014-2016

Hey guys, for those of you who have upgraded from a 2014 to a 16, what can the 7 or 8" screens do now that they couldn't do before?

 

For instance, apple carplay...what does that do that a 2014 model cannot? Can I run my phone gps thru the truck screen on a 2014?

the nav is basically the same now as in the Tahoe's and suburban's. it is faster loading the maps, has a new location for the radio/mp3/phone information and now show the current street/road that you are on. car play is now available to mate with smart phone so you have the ability to use the apps/home screen (for the most part) right to your nav/radio screen. there have been a few features that are no longer available, just one option for the dash theme being one of them. otherwise pretty close to the system that I had in my 2014.

just remembered another one, you can no longer pause or rewind live radio.

I thought that was only on the 14's. My non nav 8" can pause and rewind.

so if I bought a 2014 with 8" screen, how would that mate with my phone? just music/calls/texts only?

Don't want to start a new thread just a quick question. Is there a way to name your stored destinations. So I could just say go HOME?

I know on ACP, I just say Hey Siri get directions to home. I had to manually add my home address as destination in the GM nav I am sure it shows how in the Owners manual

The best is that you can program as destination into the Nav while the vehicle is in motion. Older Navs you had to be stopped to program....on the '16 a screen pops up asking if there is a passenger in the vehicle to program, if you indicate yes, it lets you enter a destination while it is moving or in stop and go traffic without pausing or locking you out.

 

The Google maps in auto android are OK, but nothing like the factory Nav.

Any way to shrink the icon that represents your location on the GM Nav ap? Holy cow, the dot is almost the size of a dime. I assumed there'd be a way to remove/change it, but certainly can't find one...

Yes the 14 non nav had that ability. It did on mySLE although I never used it.

I have a late-build 2015 Silverado LT. My NAV:

• has pause/rewind for the radio
• has the question about a passenger when you input a destination (it's actually a warning that you can accept and override)
• the location icon is a small white pickup not a large dot

The BEST thing about the 16 8" is running AA (or CarPlay?) and using GoogleMaps with the traffic feature running!

My 16 didn't come with Carplay, I think because it was built a little too early. Would it be able to be upgraded at the dealer? Or would it be more than just a software upgrade.
