2014 Sierra 1500 too many problems, can't take it anymore

I bought it new, just over 2 years ago, has 48k on it. Truck has had problems from the start, in no particular order. Frame rust, fixed somewhat, radiator replaced, vacuum pump replaced, some tranny shield adjusted/replaced, seat movement, Fixed a few times, still moves. And I have complained multiple times about how bad the tranny shifts and they always say it is normal, it's just the way they are. No way it's normal. Now the AC does not work, and i have a new sqweak / grind coming from the tranny or tcase under load. I think it's the tranny, probably a result of all the hard bad shifts I have complained about.

A going back into the dealer next week, I just don't know what to do with them anymore. I need to make some kind of formal complaint to GM. If the tranny is truly making this noise, it needs to be replaced. No more repairs, or the truck needs to go, I need to cut my losses I think.

It's too bad, I have had 6 GM trucks over the years, and bought another 10 for work, all bought new, and driven to 150k+ I never had problems like this. I think GM has lost me as a customer.

I agree that the shifting issue is a known problem on a lot of the trucks.

Its not a problem it is a design. The tranny attempts to always stay in the highest gear for best possible MPG. However if you step on it while slowing down for example it thinks you need/want more power so it downshifts. That roughness you feel is simply the 'slip n grip' mechanism finding the lower gear and locking into place, this is how an automatic transmissions works, the only twist is these new trucks trying to stay in highest gear for MPG.

My understanding is that GM has specific guidelines for the dealerships to follow in handling warranty claims. I believe some service writers at dealerships are over zealous in applying these guidelines. Sometimes you need to take these matters up the customer service chain because even if your truck is a first year product, you don't need to put up with transmission problems during a warranty period, It sounds like you have enough experience to determine what is "normal". I remember once being told it was normal to burn almost 2 qts of oil between oil changes.with my '09 Sierra. My $100 '61 Pontiac wagon I bought in high school did better than this!

Just throwing this out there because it's likely a less expensive route - why not get a tuner that would smooth out the tranny shifts? I had a Diablo tuner and it worked very well.

The frame rust can be fixed. The seat moving should be able to be fixed with a shim (many threads with successful fixes).

Good luck with whatever choice you go with.

We do expect a lot from our new trucks and most of the time they actually do very well. The dealership seems to be the difference in a satisfied customer and a POed one. A good dealership that stands up for the customer and makes things right will have a customer for life no matter how bad the 1 in 1000th vehicle is. I am still looking for that dealership they seem to be very rare specimens, maybe extinct?

That does suck you have had some problems. But you say you bought 10 for work and 6 of your own right? 16 trucks this is the first one you have had problems with. 1 out of 16 with some problems and your done with gm trucks. Don't seem that bad too me. Good luck!

The squeak noise by the tranny under acceleration could be the flapper valve after the muffler. Clamp it open and see if the squeak goes away. Mine would chirp squeak everytime the tranny down shifts.

people here can not see right through this BS post

??BS...what BS might that be?

I know, I bought a new year model, a very early one at that blabla bla. But all the recalls, and service bulletins etc is not right, but if I saw an end to it, I'd be okay. But it doesn't end, and now it's out of warranty. Just paid $1400 to fix AC, tranny still has noise. The dealer heard it, thought it was flapper valve. Bolted it open, noise still there. Brought it back in Had it for another 4 days, that's 10 days out of the last 21, they talked to GM tech support and still have no answer. They agree it's not normal, but need it to get worst to try to find it...that's crazy. They give me a loaner every time, but it's just a PITA. And the frame coating is coming off in chunks again, it's been adressed once already. 2 weeks in the body shop. I don't see an end to the problems with this truck.

Do I think it's a GM problem, no, I think it's just that truck.

And now the truck is gone! Traded it in on a real truck, 2016 2500 crew z71. The dealer truly understood my frustration, hell when you start to know the service guys personally, something is wrong. LOL.

They gave me a great price on the 2014, and a smoking deal on the 2016
