My engine is stock with factory tune. I have a ScanGauge that monitors KR and timing advance. When running 87 octane, I see quite a bit of KR. I maybe get a little at WOT but I mostly see at at low RPM with high loads. Example is with cruise set on a flat road. Come to a bridge overpass or any grade increase I'll see 3-5 degrees of KR. I have even seen KR when driving into a stiff wind. V4 mode is even worse. Engine struggles to stay in V4 because KR will pull some much timing that total advance is down to only a couple degrees. At this point it will go back to V8 mode. Because of this I now stay away from 87 and stick with 89 and sometimes 91 if it's not that more expensive. I've also noticed when running E85 that the partial throttle KR is all but gone. Very little KR in V4 and timing advance is much higher (maybe around 15-20 degrees vs. struggling to keep 8-10 degrees on 87 gas). These engines so seem to be octane sensitive.

That is one of the reasons we get such great mileage out of these engines, lots of timing.

6.2 has even more compression than a 5.3, I usually run 91 non ethanol when i can get it.

no e85 around here, and my 17 wont run it anyway.

I will have a tune as soon as Justin tells me is ready for 17's

What ScanGuage are you using? I have a INNOVA 3160 live data scanner but I cannot find anything noted as KR (Knock Retard) in the paperwork or on the display. It shows timing advance of course but it is all over the place. I wanted to run some 89 octane and see what changed but want to be able to monitor it for KR.

I have a ScanGauge II (https://www.scangauge.com/products/scangauge-ii/)

To display KR I had to add that using what ScanGauge calls their X-Gauge codes: https://www.scangauge.com/products/scangauge-ii/

I was also able to add oil temp. The oil temp X-Gauge isn't listed on their website. I found that somewhere else through a search (can't recall website).

Anyone have experience with SLP on our trucks? This was posted in the mods sub, but figured I would ask as it is applicable to the topic and seems decently priced for a tune / exhaust / CAI:
