Do I have this right?

Hey guys, was talking in another thread but didn't want to hijack the thread but here's another exhaust thread.

Unlike mostly everyone who wants their truck loud, I just want mine a little louder than stock with no drone inside the cabin as I will be driving my kid and baby around (wife won't approve it)

I narrowed it down to Flowmaster Super 40s and Borla Touring, just gotta find good pricing for each to see what's cheaper

But do I have this correct, replace stock muffler with Flowmaster/Borla and cut the resonator and that's it?

I don't want a full catback system. Thanks!

Borla Touring wouldn't be as loud, the Super 40 I think would be louder than you'd want. What you could do is remove the resonator above the rear axle and leave the stock muffler to see how you like it. If it's still not loud enough then put a mild muffler. I have a Super 44 (just as loud as the Super 40, just more aggressive than the 40) single in/dual out so only stock exhaust is in front of the muffler and it's pretty loud so that's why I say I think the 40 would be louder than you'd want. But, it's also hard to tell what you mean by just a little louder. Do you want it loud, but just not annoying and obnoxious or do you mean barely louder than stock so you can at least hear the V8 and not really be all that loud?

Thanks for the reply...basically I want it as loud as I can get it with zero to barely minimum drone inside the cabin. I think Borla touring would be perfect as I saw some videos and they said there's no drone inside the cabin. I saw one video on the Super 40 that sound good too and the guy said it's quiet inside too. I'm leaning more towards the touring but again, I just didn't want to spend too much money on this as well.

Super 40 will drone at certain RPM. Plus, if you have AFM active still, Super 40 will have the chopper sound.

@Rawyzf good to know!

Now I also got to throw in Magnaflow as I heard they are good too! I think the more I look into this, the more confuse I get lol

Just got back from a local muffler shop...they quoted me $325 for Magnaflow 11225 muffler install, cut resonator and tip...not dual though

It's ok to hijack threads, as long as you stay somewhat on topic, and exhaust is exhaust.

Borla sport GMPP muffler, resonator gone and flapper clamped open is what I have. Sound is perfect. No drone and sounds great. Nothing super loud but has a nice tone and growl.

Borla S-Type full exhaust. No drone. ~$1,000.

Cut out stock muffler, flapper valve and resonator. Put Magnaflow muffler in place and piece of straight pipe in place for rear resonator. No drone and not super loud either.

Off work today and was curious about the GM Borla Touring Flapper thing. I found a worm gear clamp in my stack of stuff in my garage / crawled underneath and clamped the silly thing open just to see if it makes any difference. It does look like a pretty serious restriction although the Borla system does have a bypass line probably 1" or 1 1/4" round welded in. Fixing to go get some lamb chops for lunch so should know something later today. Will try to remember to post a pic of the lamb chops....... and maybe the bypass line and flapper clamped open too!

Didn't want to do full catback exhaust, just muffler

Yea, I think I'm going to go this route.

What exactly does the flapper valve do? Why do I need to clamp it open?
