ah, in that case I'd do a muffler delete but keep the flapper

I've been kind of bouncing around that idea myself.

Can't decide if just removing the 2nd muffler/resonator but leaving the main muffler and flapper would sound good?

I don't think I'd want to remove the main large muffler in front of the flapper. I think it would get too loud and possibly drone.

Third option I've been considering is removing the main large muffler and replacing it with a Borla or Flowmaster MUFFLER only but still keeping the flapper?

I think the easiest option would be to just remove the 2nd smaller muffler/resonator and put in a pipe from their back. But without hearing a sound clip or preferably hearing one in person, I don't want to just cut the stock exhaust in HOPES I'll like it, because I read in another thread of mine that just removing the resonator will get you some drone.

Option number 3 above seems to be the best option, just need to find the muffler I like the best.

Just leave it stock if your worried about it being to loud!

That's the problem though, GM for some screwy reason decided to basically remove all sound from a big V8 powered TRUCK (both exhaust and intake).

I don't want it silent. I don't mind some noise, but don't want it as loud as the Hellcat is, just a nice rumble.

I had an MBRP I sold to a member there and It's a really good sounding system with all of the cats on these new trucks. If I were you I would gut the 3rd cat and do a Magnaflow with the same length and offset as the stock muff and delete the resonator. FYI the 3rd cat does absolutely nothing....it's not even monitored with an O2 sensor and will not throw a check engine light either.

I don't care for loud either. I recently put a borla complete on a customer '17 6.2. Sounded great to me. Nice low rumble. Very Expensive though.

Like someone else said that is a lot of coin for the GM Borla catback even though it is a quality SS system. I have had mine for several months now, the exhaust note is perfect for me, just enough to increase your pulse if you get deeply into the throttle but almost as quiet as factory system inside the truck when highway cruising. I also added a CAI so when I tip the throttle deeply it sounds like a Hell Beast has come to life LOL The GM Borla catback system has a flapper bypass pipe for some reason I never got a pic of that but probably shows on their website not sure what that does? (raining and in 40's here today so NOT going outside to take pics) If I was tight on cash I would probably just have replaced the muffler with a more flow through type and left everything else in place since the factory system does a good job of masking the V4 helicopter sound. I will tell you that the louder your system the more you will notice the exhaust note change (not necessarily a drone) at low speeds. It annoyed me enough that I bought a hand held tuner to set the AFM to only work above a certain speed (currently set for 55mph) I hope that helps.

I've been very pleased with my Corsa Sport. I have no issues talking on the phone - it sounds stock with normal driving (at least on the inside). It's only under heavy throttle that I hear it. I know this isn't necessarily your question, but I will say that when I added the Airaid MIT to my truck (a few months before adding the exhaust), I was pleasantly surprised at the sound. In other words, you may want to try installing the Airaid MIT and see if that satisfies you. It produces a nice little rumble, and there is at least arguably some added performance (albeit slight). The MIT is certainly much cheaper than a cat back system. Good luck!

this is what i did flowmaster super 44 kept flapper and res delete if you want it quieter flowmaster super 50 i was in the same boat.. and bit the bullet and hoped i passed.. and didn't feel like spending a decent amount of coin.

Slight drone in v4 but its quiet enough you can talk on the phone, or talk to your co-pilot. And thats with no music on.. i can try to get a video but i am afraid my phone will make it sound worse then in person

Put it this way my grandmother who hates loud exhaust/drone loves my truck, its not loud at all unless I downshift in M while slowing down or go wot. But these new trucks are pretty quiet vs the older chevys.

The cost for this $190 instilled (bought muffler for $69 from jcw) and sourced a muffler shop (labor $130 to swap muffler and delete res) the shop I chose did great work. my cuz did the same thing (just muffler swap) from a different shop his was $330 instilled (he didn't buy a muffler online)

If you put a flowmaster on your truck you have just reduced power. they choke the system more and flow worse than the factory muffler. Magnaflow, borla, corsa, or mbrp are the best bets.

You can puck up a borla pro xs or xr-1 muffler for under $150, take it to your local exhaust shop and have them delete the stock muffler resonator and flapper and weld in the borla muffler and put a tail pipe on with some tips and be fine. Also can do the same thing with magnaflow. Fairly cheap. Was told a 3rd cat delete with 3" piping to the borla pro xs and 3" tail pipe with dual 4" cosa style tips would run about $500. Easy cheap and good sound.

Hate to start an augment but really? Truck feels the exact same. Maybe quicker? My mpg increased slightly at least .5 or what I noticed so far...

Care to prove me wrong.

Also how is $500 cheap? Mine was $190 instilled that gives you roughly $310 which will buy a airraid intake, and have some money left over to go have fun on, etc.

Dyno results have proven it as well as flow charts even put flowmaster at the bottom. And $500 for a full stainless 3" exhaust with a quality muffler is cheap. Borla magnaflow and cords all run around a grand for a stainless 3" cat back. Mbrp aFe and Gibson will run about $500 and doing a custom borla setup will run you about that. Seat of your pants feels is just mind games basically..."i installed an exhaust in going to gain a little power and mpg"... you think it so you end up believeing it. It's been proven. Especially on the new trucks the factory exhaust flows really well and when you put a flowmaster exhaust on it causes the exhaust less flow. That's why so many of these trucks are running straight pipe exhaust or if they have the coin going with borla corse or magnaflow. Also that's why many shops recommend just installed long tubes to the factory exhaust for performance with not much sound change at all cause there's no need.

I replaced factory muffler with borla and deleted flapper, sounds lower, and louder under acceleration, otherwise quiet, no drone for me.

I have the GM/Borla dual exhaust on my truck. I put mine on for the same reason you want one: GM has made the truck completely silent. I want that V8 sound on my American truck! It's the reason why my local Ford dealer couldn't convince me to get an F150 with an eco boost. A V6 with turbos belongs in a Honda, not an American truck! (Now a V8 with turbos would be another story). Like MyFavTruck said, the system is nice and quiet, but loud when you want it to be. It sounds like this is exactly what you are looking for.

I know that you don't want to spend a ton of money, but it might be worth it to just save up for a year or so and get the Borla. There is no messing around with gutting cats, dealing with 02 sensors, clamping flappers, etc. plus, it was designed to work with the AFM, so it still sounds nice no matter what your engine is doing.

For what it's worth using my supper 44 for the price its worth it, eventually it will get replaced though.

Flapper clamped open - deeper sounding idle and increased noise/drone (drone was a killer) in eco mode but sounded better while running around in town

Flapper closed - quiet idle, quieter interior while cruising and very little drone in eco mode

I am a believer with that flapper system gm has. but it sounds more truck then prius now..

I think the Borla GMPP muffler is the next step up in sound from stock. At $200 for the muffler, it is an easy swap and you keep 75% of your stock system and the flapper valve. 'Wish I had gone this route first. But, I've bought the muffler now and plan to do the swap after January; once I finish other auto projects. I currently have the Flowmaster Force II dual system with exits behind both wheels. If not for the V4 drone, I would love it. But, it is driving me to use M5 mode around town.

This is the Borla GMPP P/N: 19131346

I've noticed this muffler is now only available direct from Borla for $199.99 + about $15 shipping. Good price but not sure why it is no longer avail from Summit. perhaps being eliminated.
