Pulling someone out of snow question

I worry more about if I were to stop getting stuck by the next person who didn't stop. Speed of which traffic travels today in hazardous conditions is idiotic.

I think everyone will agree it's situation dependant. I'm not going to put myself or family in harms way to be a good samaritan for someone who is uninjured and is simply stuck.

I could be pulling people out all day long on the hill in front of the parent's house, but for reasons Chevor pointed out; I wouldn't touch it. If someone comes to the door, I hand them the phone. My father said just the other day he won't offer to pull anyone, and I quote him saying "I can't run that fast anymore".

Yeah. But now a days trying to play Mr. Nice Guy gets your truck stolen or worse, you shot and left on the side of the road. Happening more and more. As are lawsuits for damage done when trying to play Mr. Nice Guy. Hell in the community I live, someone got sued when they snowblowed a neighbors driveway trying to be a nice person and damaged the edge of it lined in some sort of special stone/brick. Not worth the risk. Call someone else for the disabled folks and move on.

Exactly

What do you do if your 7 yr old son damaged xmas lights snow blowing?

Yea I wasn't mad more mad at myself that I forgot to mention not to hit the cord. Scared the crap out of him

Not worth fixing a $5 strand of lights

^I nailed a regular extension cord as a teenager out trying to make some cash in a friend's neighborhood. Trying to unravel an outdoor extension cord from the auger of a snowthrower was not a fun time.

If you use common sense and have the right equipment and use it properly you won't have to worry about damaging their vehicle unless it's an actual accident which a tow truck driver can also do. To make sure there's no damage I would prefer a strap. Plus being snow and/or ice on the ground means it's cold enough to where someone would rather have a nice person pull them out instead of waiting an hour for a tow truck.

I would always use my hitch, the tow hooks on the front are for when you're the one that's stuck or needs to be pulled up on a rollback tow truck.

4Lo would be best since it's a lower gearing it won't spin as fast which means more traction. Even if it still spins it won't spin as much. When stuck you want to spin but not too much. Some situations you can still get out while spinning the tires as much as you can, but that means it wasn't stuck that bad to begin with. 4Hi is for driving normally on snow, 4Lo is for actual off-roading and for pulling people out.

I learned to treat autos like original manuals. Autos are trying to mimic worlds first transmissions anyway.

Reverse is in its own world, not known as strong.

First and the 1 to 1 gear (4th) is the strongest.

4 lo is incredible on a 5 speed manual. I could pull dads 17000 pound rig from a driveway rut.

I am glad to read replies, did not know about using front.. except for knowing reverse is weaker.

I have a strap and chain.. in just one year of my truck, encountered 3 stuck. Haven't used it yet.

I also have both a strap and chain. I know a strap is safer in case something breaks but for some reason I always go for the chain without thinking. all the stuff I've done with the chain I've never had anything break and that's with very hard snatching. I guess I just got lucky. The only thing I've had happen was a hook bend open a little, but it's still usable. I need to start using the strap if I'm doing something with a vehicle except for flat towing a broke down car then I'd use the chain and pipe to put the chain through. The strap is a 4" with 30,000 lb breaking strength so nothing wrong with it I just happen to go for the chain automatically. I wouldn't mind getting a snatch strap but not in a hurry.
