I just added the basic 87 octane tune to mine. Firmer shift and speed limiter off. I'll run this for a while, and see how i like it before doing any other tweaks.

I have the tm turned off, and line pressure as high as it goes. With the 275/60 20 tires and 2.5 lift, my best 25 mpg is 28.1, best 50mpg is 27.3, best 400 is 20.1. It drives great, ran a 14.9 at the track. I usually get about 18ish mpg per tank. I just bumped throttle boost to 5% and it added a bit more throttle response, but seemingly cost a bit of mpg. Hard to say in the winter though.

 

I also have an air raid intake tube.

That's impressive. Maybe I need to turn the throttle boost down a little. I thought it was all relative but I guess not... What kind of 275/60R20 tires?

Hankook dynapro atm. They are not heavy lt tires.

So quick Question since I have the 6.2 and they recommend 91 octane or greater do I do the 91 tune or the 93? Thinking since I have 6.2 on 91 it would already have a 91 tune. You guys following what I'm saying? Any recommendations

Depends on what fuel is available in your area. If you can get 93 Oct all the time then run the 93 tune. If only 91 Oct is available use the 91 tune. Check the pump know what your putting in it. If only 93 is available at some locations in your are but 91 is more readily available just downgrade to the 91 tune. Basically you can run higher Oct fuel on the lower Oct tune; just don't run the higher Oct tune on the lower Oct fuel....If that makes sense.

 

That's my opinion anyways. Because the timing for the higher Oct tune may be too advanced to run the lower Oct fuel.

That's what I figured and what I went with (91 tune). Couple things I notice was, changed the tire size to 35/12 because it won't let me put in the .5/20s and now it's like 3 mph under what speed I'm going. For example we have two local radars on the streets around town and I set the cruise at 50 and both say 47. But my gas mileage went from 13-14 avg around town and 16 best to 17 town 20-21 highway. Which I'm happy with but how accurate is it with the speed O off by 3 mph? Was wondering if I should try putting in like a 285/65/20

Personally, I really wouldn't worry about 3 mph, that's very close and much better/accurate than some others have reported. Also I really believe those Street radars are a little on the low side(at least 1-2mph low) to give an officer better reasoning in court if need be; so with that said you may be actually within 1mph to dead nuts on. In my opinion no speedometer is dead nuts on anyways; there all a hair high to give you better reasoning. That's my opinion anyways.

After being fully warmed up, I always thought the motor idled a tad too low. When in gear at a stop (especially with the AC on) I would sometimes get a light 'shimmy' coming from the motor. RPM's would usually be just a little under 500. With the 50 RPM increase the motor is now idling smoother when in the same situation.

 

Same here. The idle could be a tad higher at a stop. Good to know I will be able to adjust it when I tune it.

3 mph though (depending on what speed you're taking about) is going to be roughly 3-3.5% off... It's not just speedo, but odometer too. And MPG calculations etc... I'm wayyyy too OCD for that. It's actually how I justified the Diablo with the wife.

Highly recommend. Just a couple mph will make. Big difference on ABS, traction control, Economy calculating, and ultimately shifting and acceleration

Hey guys,

I just got my tune in and have been toying around with the settings and tunes for the last couple of days.
For those of you that have been running them for a while, what have you found to be the sweet spot on your adjustments?
I'm currently running the 91 octane tune (not the diablo 91+ tune) with speed limiter off, tire size changed and firm shift tune on.

I wasn't able to find the parameters to turn AFM off or do throttle boost for some reason. Didn't give me the option to modify the tune or change parameters from the menu or that pop up like what shows for tire size and speed limiter.

Did you use the advanced or easy tune? Advanced tune should allow you to access AFM and throttle boost. When you go through advanced you select your canned engine (91 or 87) and transmission tunes (firm,hard) then you should be able to select modify tune. This is where you can access more advanced settings for the engine and transmission.

    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death. 
    • In the 80's 90's I'd run Honda's 7,500 miles between changes using Red Line HP 5W20 and do it for hundreds of thousands of miles with issues. Back in the day it was an SAE 20 with the HTHS of a SAE 30 and SN add load. It was also very polar. Oxidation VOA was over 120. Besides those motors were SPFI and lean burn tech. I could have likely run it longer but never did.    We had a Toyota bought new I ran on Pennzoil's latest and greatest synthetic of the day with "Penthane". A made up word for a very low dose of PAO. Tried 7,500 mile OCI's in that Group III/VI chemistry and the rings tapped out at 90K. Rocker box wasn't as bad as the one Punch put up but it wasn't good either. Also a SPFI motor.    I'm around 3,750 across the board on these GDI monsters and the oil it tapped out by then usually on TBN/TAN crossover and color. Red Line HP Euro.    The AMSOIL SS brochures tell you to follow the OEM values for the service class but that it can be run up to 25K if monitored. I can't imagine what motor could go that distance and not tap out. I've never owned one.    Yes, I know. Lot's of people do. I'm just not going to be one of them. 
    • I knew a guy in the early 80's that bought a new Monte Carlo and ran it a 100,000 miles without ever changing the filter or the oil. Just kept adding. It looked like that inside.     
    • Good evening. I was lucky enough to get passed down to me a 2007 GMC LBZ that was my great uncle's. While the underside and rockers are more or less gone I feel like with time I can restore it to working order since it only has 110,000 miles and he put nearly every option he could get without getting the new body style since he did not trust DEF. So far I have done everything I can think of but when I put the key into the ignition nothing happens. I put 2 brand new batteries in it. Cleaned the terminals. Check all the fuses and relays and they all pass with my multimeter. I know I'm missing something that I just cant think of. The only odd thing is the OBD2 port works which makes me think its not the mega fuse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
