with your tune did you notice how much of a difference it made while pulling your camper? i understand i makes normal  drivability better I’m looking for better performance while pulling also. Another question if you don’t mind, did you get a custom tune from Lew or just using the programmer?

As far as towing goes it's not that different. Supposedly Diablo claims 20-30 HP but I don't know what it actually is. Like you said though, driveability/real life driving is a huge improvement. Responsiveness, shifting, AFM delete etc.

I didn't due the custom tune from Lew. Just the canned 91 tune on the i2 with firm shift. No regrets!!

Hello all, I’ve been “enlightened” to the say the least about the Diablo tuners. I’ve always thought if it wasn’t Black Bear it was subpar lol. My current 2015 Silverado 5.3L 6spd 3.42 rear end has me at whits end with the low speed gear hunting and lugging around when I should be getting instant acceleration. 

 

Aftwe reading this thread I’ve started looking at the I3 and the Predator 2. It seems like the only benefit the I3 has is it can take custom tunes but the Predator has a tow tune. Anyway, my main question: is everyone in agreement that the basic issues are taken care of with the Diablo (lugging and gear hunting)? I’m not the most tech savvy but I could handle the basic functions of a tuner as long as there’s no formulas for fine tuning lol. I just want this truck to be more smooth and responsive as a daily driver.

Difference between a canned tune and a custom tune is like the difference between a crescent wrench and a box end wrench. They both get the job done but one is better suited for the job.

I’ve got a canned diablo tune on my silverado and it solved 75% of the transmission issues. I think a custom tune would take care of the rest but I’m gonna wait on that until I get headers.

I thought I read you could adjust the mph of when the AFM turns on with the Diablo but so far I only found an on/off option. I'd like to adjust it to 50 mph or higher.

For anyone interested in a hand held tuner, this is a great topic to read, lots of really good information on various settings, and impacts on drivability, mpg, etc.. After reading this and other forums, my questions are:

 

1. Can someone explain the differences between Predator 2 - 7271, 7220, and 7202. I'm seeing conflicting information.  For example Amazon says 7202 is compatible but Summit Racing site says it's not and the Diablo site only shows 7271 when I use 'find parts for your vehicle'?  

 

2. As we all know, the stock 6.2 is recommended to use premium fuel (91/93).  Will a 'canned' Diablo tune for 87 actually increase performance/drivability over the stock tune? I'm trying to figure out why you would want to put in an 87 tune into an engine that comes with a stock tune that recommends 91/93 to begin with and not be going backwards in terms of performance/drivability/MPG, etc..  If this is the case however it does seem to me like it could be a win/win if you get the improved tune and still able to us 87. Around here 93 is about 90 cents per gallon more than 87 so this means after 425 gallons the tuner would actually pay for it's self right?  Or perhaps I'm looking at it all wrong..

 

Please no comments on how a custom tune is better, etc...  I realize a custom tune may be better in various ways but for different reasons,which I won't get into here, I'm set on a handheld programmer and leaning towards the Diablo.  Would love to hear any feedback from those with a Diablo, which settings you have and why.

I'm actually wondering this myself. I had a '14 with the 5.3 and now I have a '17 with a 6.2 that I haven't installed my i2 canned tune yet. I will do it when I change tire size so wondering if my HP will increase or not.

On your 17, does it have the 8spd that's locked out from the factory like my 18? 

 

I'm wondering if it's worth putting a tune on when you cant change anything with the trans. Of all my tunes the transmission made the biggest drivability difference.

Good question... Agree completely. I didn't know they even did that. It is an 8 speed.

The tune on my '14 made a world of difference on the tranny.

Quick Google says the 17 6.2 8spd has the tcm locked as well. So you wont be able to tune it.

Me neither. Man that blows. I was going to install when I replace my tires next summer/fall. Has anyone contacted Diablo? They are pretty responsive.

If you already have the tuner. Go ahead and try tuning it... 

But according to the website I need the in tune platinum.

 

But I tuned my uncle's 17 5.3 with the same tuner he used on his 16. Diablo intune I3 I believe

This (old) article suggest the I2 will work with the '17. I didn't want to install it yet because I'm under my CPO warranty period. But...... I just may. I'll repost if I do.
