I guy I work with offered to sell me his Manic grill guard that he no longer needs for about 175 or so. Have any of you heard of this brand or know about the quality? I can't seem to find any links to their website. I would appreciate any input... thanks!

Just an FYI, but the correct spelling is Manik. I have one of these guards and I think they look great. They retail for over $500, so $175 is an awesome deal. I bought mine used from a friend for $250. It is really easy to install - it mounts where your tow hooks are. You can go to manik.com and they list the prices, although the site is kind of confusing. You can also go to performanceproducts.com, choose your vehicle type, then grill guards, then Manik. Their price is $459. I say go for it!!

Well I'm glad you all could help. I never heard of them before and was a bit worried. But it looks as if he has a sale and I have a new grill guard.

I'll let you all know how it looks! Thanks ~

I have a Manik guard as well and love it. Another plus that hasn't been pointed out yet is that you can mount a winch to it - that's how strong it is. I don't have a good picture of my Suburban's Manik on my web page yet but it does indeed look good. And at $175 it's a steal.

Well I got the Manik yesterday. And let me tell you.... it's in excellent shape. Not one scratch on the thing. Apparently the guy had it on his '99 and sold the truck but kept the guard. He had it sandblasted down to the medal, zinc coated and then repainted. Anyway, I believe that's what he told me. But man the thing looks like brand new! When he gave to me, it was still wrapped in bubble wrap. Took it out and I was amazed at the condition. Can't wait to mount it on the truck this weekend.

And it indeed does mount to where the tow hooks are. So I’m not sure if a winch attached to it would work or not. But it's not something I am considering. But like you all said, it sure is sturdy.

But anyway, all this and the guy even told me a lower price because he wants it out of his garage to make room for his second vehicle 150$

Dang, you got an awesome deal, especially if it has just been re-finished. The sun can get to the black on them and make them lose their shine. You probably have the same one I do, and I don't know that a winch can mount to this one. I think maybe only certain Manik's have that capability...

On the Manik website, it looks like for particular trucks you can buy a mounting plate for a winch. I still don't think it would be able to handle the load of pulling a vehicle out of a stuck situation... maybe I am wrong? :sigh:

I have a Manik, and I agree that it doesn't seem like they would be strong enough for a winch to mount to. I am thinking maybe they have different guards for different applications, and that mine isn't meant for a winch.
