A decent tune cost $600?

when did prices for a tune get so out of control?

 

its got me seriously considering superchips or a canned tune. my truck shifts so bad it sucks to drive

i believe for $600, you get unlimited tunes through blackbear for one vehicle. @jennabear can correct me if i'm wrong.

$600 is steep at least for me. Honestly i'm probably going to wait until my warranty runs out then purchase.

That's a crazy price. My tuner is $300 for a basic street tune (no dyno which isn't needed on these anyways)

If going through Blackbear the near $600 cost is for the Autocal device ($300) that can hold tunes, swap out tunes, take data samples to get unlimited retunes....The original tune itself is around $300....I had an autocal for my previous truck and now can use it for the new truck and only pay for the new truck tune $300. I think the autocal can be used for up to 10 different VINs.

I had the autocal and tune for my 09. It was $500 then. Well worth it too!!

I got my Auto-Cal on here for $180 shipped from Fondupot.

The tune was $300. Ended up spending $ 480.00 for a custom tune via EFI life. - Welllllll worth it too.

Honestly Ive always felt a handheld tuner device is the way to go on a daily driven vehicle. Even then, if it wasnt for the terrible DoD and search happy trans, i would have left my truck alone. Nothing against Black Bear but their are great tuners all over the country that will give you dyno tunes and explain all changes made, to you with real hp numbers. Im actually very happy with my diablo tuner and i have the convenience of removing the tune when going to the dealer.

Just get the in person tune from Blackbear for 300. I didn't buy the auto cal. Just set it and forget it. Love it and no issues after over a year. Plus there really is no need to flash back to stock tune when visiting the dealer because if there is a major issue you can't fool GM. They WILL find your tune. Life is too short to be driving around in a brand new truck with a shi$%y factory tune.

I don't know it seems ridiculous to me...I don't want a $300 autocal and then a $300 tune. I only want the tune. my vette is $149 for a totally custom tune for my mods. my truck is stock...no reason the tune should cost 4 times as much.

All about supply and demand. $300 is what Blackbear charges because that's what people will pay. You could always buy the EFI software and learn to write your own tunes if you wanted.

well im not going to pay it. I had efi live on my old diesel and wrote my own tunes. For what it is, it shouldn't cost $600. Blackbear has a base tune on file, they just tweak a couple tables in the tune to make it "custom". No reason that should cost me $600.

 

Guess its a handheld tuner for me
