Traded in the Silverado

Yep same here. Been there done that. Not an excuse for blaming his vehicle issues in your issues. Also i believe he said they checked the tires. Chevy shake is very real and unless you have experienced it first hand you really have no idea.

I agree that we could all use a dose of slowing down but to blame safe and legal speed on his vehicle issues is a reach.

Yup tires were road force balanced at the dealership and then a few weeks later I had them road force balanced again at an actual tire shop. The shaking was only one issue of many. If it was just the shaking, I probably would have sucked it up and tried to fix it, but it was a list of problems. Most recent my climate control. I could either get really cold or really hot air. No in between.

"Chevy shake" is a popular descriptor and most of my experience with such "shakes" has been with earlier Fords. My experience with my past three GM products has been a consistently smooth ride. Shakes, squeaks and faulty heaters are all repairable. The OP was finished with getting these faults fixed. If it was not a fixable problem then you would expect all similar models to have this issue!

Friend bought a Titan last year. To him a truck is a truck and brands mean nothing. While he complained about his Chevy he is also complaining about his Titan. Sucks gas big time and rides worse he says.

Frontier is an all other beast, that vehicle is proven reliable even if it still has some old technologies and fuel consumption is a bit high it is right now, today the best 4X4 truck to buy by far. Cheaper than the prettier Canyon and Colorado by $1000s.

My truck shook like a butter churn when I bought it. Didn't try to take the dealer down for the cheap bad tires GM put on it at the plant. And I wasn't blaming him, was just trying to put across his decision may have been premature, maybe his decision was already made for all I know. Thank you for replying as much as you did, just hope it was constructive and not destructive towards the sense of this thread.

For sure. I'm all good. No need to have cross country internet fights with people we don't know. I was commenting on the idea that his speed is why the truck was shaking. That is literally what you posted. With that in mind all gm 1500 trucks should shake at 80. That is crazy. Comments were to show that the speed had nothing to do with the shake and to hint that it did is not helpful to anyone. I do agree with the later comments of possibly giving up or giving in on a truck under warranty. However we all have our breaking point and he reached his. At some point the cost and time at the shop just is not worth it.

And moving on congrats on your new purchase op. Hope it gives you the experience you should have had with your gm.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I hope so too. I traded in my ford edge for this the Silverado because the edge had tons of issues. Engine oil leak at 10,000 miles for one, heater and door locks stopped working. Hopefully this one is solid.

Dude, it's a Nissan with a 10yr old platform. That sucker is solid. You got me watching YouTube vids on the 2016+ Tacoma vs the Frontier. TFL drag raced them and old Nissan whooped the new taco. The Nissan Frontier is the obvious choice. Nathan was driving the taco and admitted it had a lot of electronic nanny's off-road. I remember my '09 TRD OR had all kinds of electronic LSD's and crap.... all wanted was the locker. For real offroaders or car minded people the Nissan is the no brainer choice. The Taco just has a cult following which is a carryover from their old trucks (like me in '09). I saw shots on TFL's videos of the Taco's frame.... STILL C-CHANNEL!!! IIRC the Frontier has a fully boxed frame. And the Frontier has rear disc brakes... the taco still has drums. Plus you can find some nissan dealers that mark them down stupidly on prices. My parents have bought two Altimas from a dealer in Lakeland, FL. I know a co-worker who also did.... huge % below sticker. My dad's '16 altima with bluetooth, cameras, remote start etc was like $17k OTD. I'm sure they would sell a PRO-4X a heck of a lot cheaper than any Toyota dealer would sell a TRD OR.

All Nissan really needs to do with the frontier is update the materials of interior, update the transmission to a 6spd...leave everything else alone and the truck would still be a winner.

I could care less what others run for speed. I run around 65 mph, whether the limit is 65, 70, 75, whatever. On two lanes, typically around 60. Anyone wants to go faster, be my guest and get on around and down the road. All those years of national 55 speed limit, just have never felt the need to faster than 65. More relaxing drive.

I regret sometimes not getting a 2015 Xterra. I came SO close. It was the last year for them to.

I hear you dude. I have a number of issues with my 2016 Sierra SLT 5.3L:

  • Shake at highway speeds
  • Engine vibration at idle
  • Rattling center console
  • Rattling rear sliding glass

I've got 24,000 miles on the clock, and I'm seriously contemplating dumping the truck before the warranty runs out. What really gave me pause was test driving a 2012 Yukon SLT for my fiancé. The Yukon had 90,000 miles on it and drove more quietly and solidly than my new truck.

Like you, I've gone through all of these issues with all 3 Chevy/GMC dealers in my area - none of them have been permanently fixed. Still trying to decide what to do with the truck. I'd hate to see it go - the styling is gorgeous inside and out - but I am getting tired of driving around in an expensive rattle box that is constantly in the shop.

I hear ya man. I miss my Silverado but not the problems. I only had 6K on it. I can't imagine what 50K would be like. Just got tired of trying to fix it. Really sad because I really loved that truck. If it was just the vibration issues, I probably would have delt with it or kept trying to fix it.

I would expect a well maintained Yukon to ride like a luxury car! My '86 Suburban was so smooth I had difficulty staying awake while driving on the highway! What is the GM customer rep you are dealing with saying about the rattles?

Where in the USA is speed limit at 80 MPH, Nevada? Here I've never driven over 110 Kms ( ≈68MPH )

Many of the interstates in the west have 80 mph speed limits. Lots of others are 75 mph. Texas has some at 85 mph.

Coming from the land of 100 kph (62mph) it seems odd when the reduced speed in a construction zone is 65 mph.

If you aren't going 75 on some of the interstates in Massachusetts you are going to cause a crash.

It really is a shame that these issues are happening. I honestly think the tire industry is to blame for a lot of it but GM is in charge of their suppliers regardless. And they are responsible if the truck is not performing as intended. Period. I absolutely love my truck but I've definitely had my frustrations.

Customer service is dead and nobody has time to go back and forth to the dealer and advocate for themselves. The dealer who sold you the truck should be the one fighting GM for you.

With my experience, I've had to go to GM Customer Care to fight the dealer! It's bass-ackwards. And I still wasn't 100% satisfied but who has time for that???

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
